What is a remote product manager?

Remote product managers are professionals who oversee the development and lifecycle of products while working outside a traditional office setting, often from home or other remote locations. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, set product strategies, gather requirements, and ensure products meet market needs—all through virtual communication tools. Remote product managers must excel at digital collaboration, communication, and project management to keep teams aligned and projects on track. This role has become increasingly popular as companies embrace distributed workforces and global talent.

What does a remote product manager do?

Remote product managers are responsible for analyzing product trends, forecasting demand, and implementing the release of new products for your company. Instead of working in the office, remote product managers complete their job duties from home or another location outside of the office. As a remote product manager, your responsibilities may include assessing current market trends and consumer needs to determine where new market niches are emerging and how your company’s existing products fit in those markets. You also oversee the team that develops and implements the release of new technology products to fill these niches. Many remote product managers have sales or marketing backgrounds; this experience provides valuable insight into consumer trends and satisfying customer needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote product manager?

To thrive as a Remote Product Manager, you need a strong background in product lifecycle management, market research, and strategic planning, typically supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with agile project management tools like Jira, Trello, and product analytics platforms such as Mixpanel or Google Analytics is essential. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and cross-functional collaboration skills help remote product managers stand out. These competencies ensure successful product delivery, alignment across distributed teams, and the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities in a remote environment.

How does a remote product manager typically coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure product success?

As a remote Product Manager, you'll frequently collaborate with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams across different locations and time zones. Effective coordination relies on clear communication, regular virtual meetings, and the use of collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and Zoom. You'll often set and track goals, facilitate progress updates, and resolve blockers proactively. Building strong relationships and fostering transparency are essential to maintain alignment and keep projects on track while working remotely.

Job description

About Onsetto

Onsetto is building a modern fintech company trusted by banks and financial institutions across the country. Having recently closed a successful $9M seed round investment, we are rapidly growing and looking for entrepreneurially minded candidates to join our team!

We are building a company centered around ownership, execution, and measurable outcomes, and we are looking for people who want to do meaningful work alongside a highly capable team.

About the role
We're looking for a Product Manager to help shape the experiences at the center of the business-banking transition, turning first-time users into successful customers and successful customers into long-term platform adopters.

You'll work across the journeys that help financial institutions engage prospective customers, help businesses understand and navigate a switch, and turn complex financial workflows into intuitive product experiences. You'll have meaningful ownership while partnering closely with design, engineering, customer-facing teams and another Product Manager focused on our data and intelligence capabilities.
The strongest candidates will have experience building products where long-term success depends not simply on acquiring customers, but on helping them discover, adopt and expand their use of a broader product ecosystem.
What you'll do

  • Develop a deep understanding of financial institutions, business customers and the workflows involved in changing banking relationships.
  • Shape the experience from early engagement through switching and successful adoption.
  • Help customers understand the value of Onsetto and move confidently through each stage of their journey.
  • Identify the moments that build confidence, reduce friction and help customers take the next step.
  • Work closely with design and engineering from early discovery through delivery, measurement and iteration.
  • Partner directly with customers and customer-facing teams to understand problems and evaluate product opportunities.
  • Collaborate across product areas, including customer workflows, data and AI-powered capabilities.
  • Define meaningful measures of customer progress, engagement and successful adoption.
  • Communicate product direction, decisions and tradeoffs clearly across the company.

What you bring

  • Experience owning customer-facing software products from discovery through launch, adoption and ongoing optimization.
  • Experience designing products that improve customer activation, engagement, retention or expansion through measurable product outcomes.
  • Experience using product analytics and customer research to optimize conversion funnels, onboarding journeys or product adoption.
  • Strong product judgment and a demonstrated ability to turn complex problems into clear product direction.
  • A track record of owning measurable outcomes, not only features, projects or roadmaps.
  • Experience working closely with engineering and product design.
  • Comfort engaging directly with customers and operating across functional teams.
  • The ability to balance customer value, business priorities and technical considerations.
  • Clear, candid and respectful written and verbal communication.
  • High standards, sound judgment and a willingness to surface difficult issues early.
  • Resilience and steadiness when priorities evolve or obstacles arise.
  • Curiosity, humility and a high degree of personal ownership.
  • Bonus! Experience building products that guide customers through complex adoption journeys, subscription expansion, product-led growth or multi-product ecosystems is highly valued. Fintech, banking or enterprise SaaS experience is helpful but not required.

You are product manager who is
A customer-centered systems thinker
You're curious about how customers operate and make decisions. You can understand complex systems, identify the underlying problem and turn that complexity into a clear, intuitive product experience.
A focused owner
You take responsibility for outcomes and bring clarity to ambiguous problems. You identify the few opportunities that matter most, make thoughtful tradeoffs and remain accountable for whether the work creates meaningful value.
A pragmatic builder
You balance long-term product thinking with consistent execution. You use customer insight, product data and sound judgment to make decisions, then learn and adapt as the team delivers.
A direct and collaborative teammate
You work well across engineering, design and customer-facing teams. You communicate candidly and respectfully, surface difficult issues early and help raise the quality of both the work and the team around you.

What You Can Expect

  • The opportunity to take real ownership of your work and make a visible impact
  • Broad hands-on experience across multiple areas of the business
  • The ability to help shape processes, systems, and how the company operates
  • Direct exposure to leadership and strategic decision-making
  • A high-trust environment with low bureaucracy and meaningful responsibility
  • A team that values accountability, clarity, consistency, and strong execution
  • Flexible PTO
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees
  • Access to HSA plan options
  • Paid parental leave
  • Opportunities for travel and industry exposure in customer-facing or go-to-market roles
  • An environment catered to people who want to build, improve, and contribute beyond a narrow job description

If this is you, we'd love to review your application! Please note that real humans review all candidates. If you're identified as a possible fit, someone will be in touch within 1 week.
