What is remote product management?

Remote product management is the practice of overseeing the development and lifecycle of a product from a location outside a traditional office setting. Remote product managers coordinate with cross-functional teams, set product strategy, gather user feedback, and ensure product goals are met, all while working remotely. They use digital tools to collaborate, communicate, and manage projects efficiently. This role requires strong communication and organization skills, as well as the ability to adapt to virtual work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote product manager?

To thrive as a Remote Product Manager, you need a strong foundation in product lifecycle management, market research, and strategic planning, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, product analytics platforms, and proficiency in remote collaboration software such as Slack and Zoom are essential. Exceptional communication, leadership, and self-motivation are critical soft skills for aligning dispersed teams and driving product success from a distance. These skills and qualities are vital for effectively managing product development, fostering collaboration, and delivering results in a remote work environment.

How do remote product managers effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams across different time zones?

Remote product managers often work with team members from engineering, design, marketing, and sales who may be located in various regions. To ensure smooth collaboration, they rely heavily on asynchronous communication tools, regular video meetings, and clear documentation of project goals and updates. Establishing core hours for overlap, using shared project management platforms, and fostering a culture of transparency are essential for keeping everyone aligned and engaged. These strategies help remote product managers overcome the challenges of distance and time zone differences, ensuring that projects stay on track and team members remain connected.

Description
As the Product Manager for Messaging & Media, you will own the vision, strategy, and execution across Tithely’s Messaging, Sites, and Media product areas to help local churches communicate effectively and engage their communities. You will partner with engineering, design, and cross-functional teams to translate strategy into high-quality features that drive product success and adoption for the success of our churches.

  • Define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Messaging, Sites, and Media Products, grounded in a deep understanding of customer needs and business goals.
  • Translate approved Bets into well-scoped Jira Epics with clearly defined problem statements, quantitative success metrics, guardrail metrics, and key flows for AI-assisted Story decomposition and clean engineering hand-off.
  • Own the Messaging Product Value Stream throughout the full product lifecycle by gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, driving product vision, and working closely with engineering.
  • Serve as an expert on the competitive Messaging landscape, monitoring market trends and identifying opportunities to close key capability gaps.

  • Perform product demos to customers (beta, MVP, and deep dives).
  • Set goals and track quantitative KPIs for every Epic and Bet within your Product Value Streams, monitoring guardrail metrics to ensure changes do not cause harm elsewhere.
  • Communicate clearly across Product, Engineering, Design, and executive stakeholders to ensure Product Value Stream goals stay aligned with overall company Objectives.

  • Manage Complexity by acquiring data from multiple and diverse sources, uncovering root causes of difficult problems, and making sense of complex and sometimes contradictory information to solve problems effectively.
  • Communicate Effectively by developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Strategic Mindset by anticipating future trends and implications accurately and translating them into breakthrough strategies.
  • Collaborate through working with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives, representing your own interests while being fair to others and their areas.
  • Plans and Aligns by planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals across the full product lifecycle.
Required Technical Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in product management in a SaaS or software technology environment.
  • Proven track record overseeing all stages of the software product development lifecycle from discovery to delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience using data analytics tools and quantitative KPIs to measure product performance and make decisions.
  • Technical proficiency with product development and project tracking tools, specifically Jira and Figma.
  • Experience writing technical documentation, product requirements, user stories, and Jira Epics.
Preferred Technical Qualifications:
  •  Experience managing communication platforms or messaging tools involving Email, SMS, or Push Notifications.
