What is a remote Power Builder developer?

A Remote Power Builder Developer is a software professional who specializes in developing, maintaining, and enhancing applications using PowerBuilder, a rapid application development (RAD) tool, while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include coding, debugging, and optimizing PowerBuilder applications, integrating them with databases, and troubleshooting technical issues. How to get a job as a remote Power Builder developer?

The primary qualifications to get a job as a remote PowerBuilder developer vary depending on the employer but usually include a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and several years of experience using PowerBuilder. It’s recommended to spend a few years in an office-based role to gain experience before making the switch to remote work. PowerBuilder itself is a relatively advanced programming system, so you may want to study other programming languages first. Fulfilling your responsibilities and duties as a remote PowerBuilder developer also requires coding, time-management, and communication skills, as well as a reliable computer with high-speed internet access.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Power Builder developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Power Builder Developer, you need a strong background in PowerBuilder programming, SQL databases, and application development, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with PowerBuilder IDE, version control systems like Git, and experience with software development methodologies are essential. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and delivering project requirements. These skills ensure efficient development, seamless teamwork across locations, and successful project outcomes in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Power Builder developers and how can they be managed?

Remote Power Builder Developers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams, understanding legacy codebases, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. Quora’s mission is to grow and share the world’s knowledge. To do so, we have two knowledge sharing products:

  • Quora: a global knowledge sharing platform with over 300M monthly unique visitors, bringing people together to share insights on various topics and providing a unique platform to learn and connect with others.
  • Poe: a platform providing millions of global users with one place to chat, explore and build with a wide variety of AI language models (bots), including o3, o4-mini, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, GPT Image 1 and more. As AI capabilities rapidly advance, Poe provides a single platform to instantly integrate and utilize these new models.

Behind these products are passionate, collaborative, and high-performing global teams. We have a culture rooted in transparency, idea-sharing, and experimentation that allows us to celebrate success and grow together through meaningful work. Join us on this journey to create a positive impact and make a significant change in the world.

This role will be working on our Poe product.

About the Team and Role:

We are seeking a talented iOS Engineer to join us in building Poe, an innovative platform that brings together the world’s leading AI models in one place. You will work at the cutting edge of technology to design, develop, and maintain the Poe iOS app. This includes collaborating with our product team to build new AI-driven user features, crafting a scalable mobile architecture, and creating tools to speed up iteration. You’ll have a direct influence on the iOS team’s product roadmap and plenty of opportunities to shape the future of the Poe mobile platform.

Poe has experienced rapid growth so far, and as an iOS Engineer, you’ll help empower users to unlock new possibilities and achieve more with AI. If you have a passion for AI, emerging technologies, and mobile development, this is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact.

Responsibilities:
  • Work within a small team of mobile engineers to design, build, and maintain the Poe iOS app
  • Build new user-facing features and help drive the Poe product roadmap
  • Create tools and infrastructure to enable rapid development of the Poe mobile experience
  • Collaborate with the Poe product team and other engineers to enhance the overall user experience
  • Own the entire software development process from timeline estimation to coding, testing and release
Minimum Requirements:
  • Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
  • 2+ years of full-time experience in iOS development with Swift
  • Strong knowledge of iOS frameworks, and mobile trends
  • High attention to detail in all aspects of development from performance to UI
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment and learn continuously
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of responsibility; whether it be fixing bugs in a timely manner or proactively identifying issues in order to unblock yourself for a given project
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with SwiftUI or GraphQL
  • Interest in working in the AI space

At Quora, we value diversity and inclusivity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including marginalized or underrepresented groups in tech, to apply for our job openings. We encourage all candidates who share a passion for growing the world’s knowledge, even those who may not strictly meet all the preferred requirements, to apply, as we know that a diverse range of perspectives can have a significant impact on our products and our culture.
