Job Description:
Assistant General Manager
Job Summary
Responsible for directing and managing recruiting operations, roster strategy, player personnel functions, and talent acquisition initiatives. This position provides leadership in developing long-term recruiting strategies, evaluating prospective student-athletes, overseeing recruiting operations, monitoring roster management activities, and ensuring compliance with NCAA, SEC, and institutional regulations.
Working closely with the Head Football Coach, General Manager, Director of Player Personnel, and other football staff, the Assistant General Manager helps build and sustain a championship-caliber football program through strategic roster construction, talent evaluation, recruiting innovation, and operational excellence.
Essential Functions
• Provides direct leadership and oversight for assigned recruiting personnel, analysts, graduate assistants, interns, and student employees. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring performance, providing coaching and development, and ensuring alignment with football recruiting and roster management objectives.
• Develops, implements, and oversees the football program's comprehensive recruiting philosophy, strategy, and long-term vision.
• Coordinates recruiting calendars, evaluation periods, communication strategies, and recruiting travel plans.
• Directs and provides leadership to recruiting staff, analysts, graduate assistants, interns, and student employees.
• Establishes and manages national, regional, and positional recruiting priorities based on roster needs and competitive objectives.
• Leads recruiting operations meetings and collaborate with coaching staff regarding recruiting needs and priorities.
• Evaluates recruiting effectiveness and identify opportunities to enhance talent acquisition strategies.
• Supports the development and execution of innovative recruiting initiatives that strengthen the football program's competitive position.
• Collaborates with the General Manager to develop and maintain multi-year roster management plans.
• Monitors scholarship allocations, eligibility timelines, roster projections, and position-specific depth charts.
• Evaluates transfer portal opportunities and assists in establishing strategic acquisition priorities.
• Analyzes roster composition and provides recommendations regarding class balance, succession planning, and long-term talent needs.
• Develops and maintains player evaluation systems, grading methodologies, and position-specific assessment criteria.
• Oversees walk-on evaluations and assists in preferred walk-on roster management decisions.
• Monitors national roster trends and emerging recruiting markets to identify competitive opportunities.
• Direct the evaluation of high school, junior college, and transfer portal prospects.
• Utilizes film review, analytics, scouting data, and in-person evaluations to assess prospective student athletes.
• Collaborates with the Director of Player Personnel to ensure accuracy and consistency across recruiting boards.
• Maintains recruiting boards, positional rankings, prospect databases, and talent pipelines.
• Standardizes evaluations processes to ensure consistency across recruiting and coaching staff.
• Coordinates prospect evaluation activities during NCAA permissible recruiting periods.
• Leads rapid assessment efforts for student athletes entering the transfer portal.
• Provides talent evaluation recommendations to coaching and administrative leadership.
• Collaborates with recruiting leadership to oversee official visits, unofficial visits, camps, Junior Days, and gameday recruiting activities.
• Direct recruiting event logistics, including schedules, travel arrangements, presentations, campus tours, and itineraries.
• Coordinates communications among prospective student-athletes, families, coaches, and other permissible contacts.
• Ensure all recruiting experiences reflect the culture, values, and priorities of the football program.
• Support recruitment marketing efforts, presentations, and relationship-building initiatives.
• Monitors recruiting operations to ensure effectiveness, consistency, and positive prospect engagement.
• Ensures all recruiting and personnel activities comply with NCAA, SEC, and institutional rules and regulations.
• Partners with compliance personnel to monitor recruiting activities, contact periods, evaluations, and communications.
• Manages and maintains recruiting databases and technology platforms, including ARMS, Teamworks, RecruitingRadar, Catapult, and similar systems.
• Maintains accurate prospect records, academic information, transcripts, eligibility tracking, and recruiting documentation.
• Monitors legislative changes, recruiting trends, and industry best practices.
• Prepares reports, summaries, and analyses for football leadership regarding recruiting and roster activities.
• Promotes a culture of integrity, accountability, and compliance within football operations.
• Participates in strategic planning initiatives supporting football operations and recruiting.
• Assists with special projects and departmental initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Communications, Higher Education Administration, Athletic Administration, or a related field.
Master's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Communications, Higher Education Administration, Athletic Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience Requirement
3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in college football recruiting, player personnel, scouting, roster management, or related areas.
Demonstrated experience evaluating football talent through film analysis, scouting, analytics, and live evaluations.
Experience coordinating recruiting operations and managing recruiting workflows.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
Valid driver's license required.
Must maintain eligibility to travel on behalf of the instittution and represent the university in recruiting-related activities.
NCAA Recruiting Certification required or must be obtained and maintained in accordance with NCAA and institutional requirements.
Continued training and certification in NCAA, SEC, and instutitional compliance requirements may be required.

Physical Demands
This position requires regular standing, walking, and movement throughout athletic facilities, recruiting events, practices, competitions, and campus locations. The incumbent must be able to sit for extended periods while reviewing film, analyzing recruiting data, managing databases, and performing administrative duties. The position also requires intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials, recruiting displays, luggage, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Frequent travel is required, including local, regional, and national travel for recruiting, scouting, evaluations, camps, conferences, and other football-related activities. The position may involve regular exposure to outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions and temperature extremes, as well as intermittent exposure to loud noise levels associated with practices, athletic events, and stadium operations.
The ability to maintain a flexible schedule, work extended hours, and perform duties during evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak recruiting periods is essential for successful performance in this role.
