Remote Pipeline Integrity Engineer information

What is a remote pipeline integrity engineer?

Remote Pipeline Integrity Engineers are specialists who monitor, assess, and ensure the safety and reliability of pipelines from a remote location. They use advanced technologies and data analysis tools to detect potential failures, corrosion, or leaks in pipelines transporting oil, gas, or other materials. Their work is critical in preventing environmental hazards and maintaining continuous operation, often collaborating closely with field teams and using software to interpret sensor data. These engineers play a vital role in maintaining infrastructure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote pipeline integrity engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Pipeline Integrity Engineer, you typically need a background in engineering (usually mechanical, civil, or petroleum), experience in pipeline integrity management, and knowledge of industry regulations. Proficiency in specialized software such as GIS mapping tools, pipeline inspection data platforms, and relevant certifications like API 1169 or NACE are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and making informed decisions remotely. These capabilities are crucial for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of pipeline infrastructure, often from off-site locations.

What are the main challenges faced by remote pipeline integrity engineers when monitoring and maintaining pipeline systems from a distance?

Remote Pipeline Integrity Engineers often encounter challenges such as limited on-site access, which can make it difficult to gather real-time data or visually inspect potential issues. They rely heavily on advanced monitoring technologies and data analytics to detect anomalies and ensure pipeline safety. Effective communication with on-site teams and rapid decision-making are essential, as engineers must coordinate maintenance and emergency responses remotely. Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency with remote sensing tools are critical to overcoming these challenges and maintaining pipeline integrity.

Job description

Transparent Hiring is recruiting on behalf of our partner company, a fast-growing reinsurance company operating across Germany and the United States. Corporate language: English. The environment is collaborative, hands-on, and driven by a strong "build and ship" mindset.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You will design and build solutions from scratch with limited resources by combining and adapting existing tools.

The role

We're looking for a Data Engineer (m/f/d) to build and improve internal data solutions that make workflows and data more reliable and scalable. This is a hands-on role focused on data automation, pragmatic system design, and shipping working solutions.

What you'll do
  • Own the delivery of scalable internal data solutions (end-to-end, not just concepts)

  • Translate business needs into clear technical designs and working systems

  • Build and improve data pipelines, integrations, and automation

  • Establish foundations for data reliability, reporting, and operational tooling

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Germany and the US

What you bring (must-have)
  • 5+ years of proven experience building and delivering data solutions in production

  • Experience in startup environments (fast-moving, hands-on, limited resources)

  • Strong skills in Python and SQL

  • Experience creating solutions from scratch with limited resources-combining existing tools/solutions and adapting them to specific needs

  • Solid understanding of data architecture, system design, and integration patterns

  • Fluent professional English (spoken + written)

Nice to have
  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance, banking, or finance

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern data tooling

Location & working model
  • Remote-first across Germany and the US (offices available).

  • Relocation to Germany is supported by Transparent Hiring if the candidate is based outside Germany, and wants to relocate.

If this sounds like the kind of hands-on role you enjoy, apply with your CV or LinkedIn profile - we'd love to hear from you.
