Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Learning Engineer [Lab Schools Focus] based in Netherlands.

This is a high-impact, mission-driven role at the intersection of education, AI, and instructional design, supporting a pioneering network of lab schools rethinking how teaching and learning are shaped in the age of artificial intelligence. You will work directly with school leaders and educators to co-design and implement AI-powered learning tools that fit real classroom needs and pedagogical goals. The role combines hands-on technical building with deep instructional coaching and partnership work across multiple schools. You will serve as a trusted thought partner to educators while helping translate classroom challenges into scalable AI-driven solutions. Operating in a remote-first, fast-moving environment, you will also contribute to broader product and research efforts beyond the core cohort. This is a unique opportunity to shape how AI is integrated into education at both the classroom and system level, while influencing tools and practices that can scale across the wider education field.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary technical and instructional partner for 4-5 lab schools across a 24-month transformation journey, providing coaching, build support, and ongoing engagement.
  • Co-design and support AI-enabled learning models with school leadership teams, ensuring alignment with pedagogy, classroom realities, and learning goals.
  • Build and iterate custom AI learning tools such as assessment systems, lesson planning tools, student-facing applications, and communication platforms.
  • Define quality standards for cohort outputs and ensure all solutions are robust, scalable, and open-source ready from inception.
  • Lead coaching and mentorship sessions for educators, school leaders, and embedded regional learning engineers across multiple locations.
  • Facilitate quarterly convenings, workshops, and collaborative build sessions to align cohort progress and share best practices.
  • Contribute insights from field implementation to improve internal tools, product features, documentation, and learning frameworks.
  • Flex into adjacent projects, cross-functional initiatives, or experimental work while maintaining the lab schools program as the core focus.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in teaching, instructional leadership, or school leadership with a strong understanding of classroom practice and educator needs.
  • Proven ability to design and build AI-powered or advanced software tools using modern techniques such as multi-step workflows, agentic systems, or evaluation loops.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or training educators with a balance of high standards and empathy.
  • Strong understanding of how AI tools are applied in real classroom environments for both teachers and students.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively in remote, asynchronous settings.
  • Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills, including creating playbooks, build logs, or instructional resources.
  • Ability to manage long-term partnerships across multiple stakeholders while remaining adaptable to shifting priorities.
  • Commitment to equity, access, and inclusive education practices, with availability for quarterly multi-day convenings over a 24-month period.

Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with experience and location.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage and wellness support programs.
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment with strong autonomy.
  • Generous paid time off and supportive leave policies.
  • Professional development opportunities and exposure to cutting-edge AI-in-education work.
  • Opportunity to work on nationally and globally recognized education innovation initiatives.
  • Direct impact on real classroom transformation across a network of pioneering schools.
