Berkley Technology Underwriters is a global insurance provider offering property, casualty, professional and cyber insurance coverage for technology companies.
Responsibilities
As a Sr. Technology Underwriter, you'll be responsible for the management and growth of a Northern California Territory book of business as well as the acquisition of new business with a focus on Technology Middle Market insurance customers. We will rely on you to analyze customers' business information and claims history, monitor clients' activities to change the policies as risks evolve. You'll evaluate acceptability of individual risks and determine overall acceptability of risk, coverage terms and pricing to achieve company profit objectives. You'll work with agents/brokers to develop productive and profitable relationships while also ensuring compliance with company underwriting guidelines and insurance regulators.
  • Responsible for profitable results by maintaining high premium retention ratios
  • Manage accounts for assigned territory
  • Handle new and renewal submissions and endorsement requests from agents/ producers
  • Document underwriting files to support analysis, coverage terms and pricing
  • Operate according to underwriting authority as delegated by manager
  • In conjunction with management, lead renewal business initiatives for territory including execution of pricing, premium retention, coverage analysis, loss control needs, claim service needs and account stewardship
  • Provides clear instruction and guidance to underwriting support staff and operations staff
  • Learn and develop sales and marketing skills and strategies in order to meet financial goals
  • Follow established pricing, underwriting and documentation protocol as set forth by underwriting management
  • Mentor & coach junior underwriters and underwriting support staff

May perform other functions as assigned

Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years years of experience in a commercial underwriting experience
  • Knowledge of commercial lines underwriting standards and practices along with rating/pricing methods
  • Knowledge of interpreting coverage forms
  • Negotiation skills
  • Experience selling and/or marketing insurance products & services
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Excellent PC skills and a working knowledge of Windows environment a valid driver's license and carry vehicle insurance coverage.

Education Requirement
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
