The Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) envisions a world where no one is forced to give up their homeland and where all Black LGBTQIA+ people are free and liberated. We build and center the power of Black LGBTQIA+ migrants to ensure the liberation of all Black people through Organizing & Base-building, Strategic Communications, and Viability & Sustainability. We are led by a directly impacted steering committee, staff and consultants, and operate organizing networks in New York City, DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia region), Minneapolis, California, and the South. Position Summary
The Operations Manager is a highly trusted role responsible for managing and strengthening the internal systems, infrastructure, and operational practices of BLMP. This role is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented systems nerd who enjoys building efficient, accessible, and scalable systems that support a dynamic and growing team.

The Operations Manager serves as the primary point of contact for staff IT systems and operational processes, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. This role will lead multiple projects, manage day-to-day operational infrastructure, and embed values of disability justice and language access into all systems and workflows.


Responsibilities

Operations and IT (60%)

  • Design, lead or co-lead operations, systems, platforms and IT training for BLMP staff.
  • Manage and enforce authentication protocols, password policies, and role-based access rights to ensure data confidentiality.
  • Design, publish, and maintain org-wide security policies, compliance standards, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Train staff on cybersecurity best practices, data handling, and how to prevent social engineering and phishing attacks.
  • Manage, assess and improve staff-wide operational system safety and security protocols, processes and practices.
  • Serve as the primary point person for all BLMP staff, consultant and members IT systems and project management inquiries, troubleshooting and ongoing support.
  • Manage and improve all BLMP internal platforms (e.g. Asana, Box, Google Workspace, Slack, LastPass, Office Suite, MFA, and other collaboration tools) while maintaining a strong discernment for the safety and security of all workflow within staff, consultants and membership.
  • Collaborate and coordinate closely with outsourced IT partners, fiscal sponsor and FinOps team to resolve issues, maintain systems and networks and plan process improvements.
  • Assess and address shifting and differential operational needs of diverse staff through different locations, time zones, and multiple languages.
  • Assess and design operations process, technologies and interfaces for maximal disability and language justice access.
  • Develop, document and regularly update standard operation procedures to support consistency and clarity across workflows.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized, accessible knowledge base for staff reference.

HR and Administration (30%)

  • Serve as point person for operations based onboarding and offboarding processes, including systems access, documentation, equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as point person for outsourced IT partner, Parachute
  • Design and maintain streamlined onboarding workflows that set new staff up for success.
  • Ensure timely and secure offboarding processes, including account deactivation and knowledge transfer.
  • Continuously improve onboarding/offboarding systems to enhance staff experience operational efficiency.
  • Manage virtual and in-person technological system preparation, execution and maintenance, including troubleshooting support for internal meetings, retreats and events.
  • Identify operations gaps and emerging needs; research solutions and present recommendations.
  • Manage cross-functional projects to improve organizational effectiveness, infrastructure and culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in similar positions
  • Experience with supervision
  • Progressive movement operations experience preferred
  • Experience with safety and security, language justice, and disability justice work, especially related to operations system
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Slack, Asana, Zoom, LastPass and Box or comparable systems and tools.
  • Strong collaborator and solution oriented with the ability to manage multiple interdepartmental projects and tasks.
  • Demonstrate high level initiative in ensuring project goals are met and in line with organizational mission
  • Skilled at prioritizing, analytical thinking, problem-solving and able to employ these in making sound recommendations.
  • Adept at building and managing relationships with staff, consultants, members, coalition members, and community partners.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and with people from a variety of different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, gender, and generational backgrounds.
