Virtual Nurse works from an on-site office location (not a remote position)
Will perform admit, discharge, chart review and other patient care duties via a secure link to patient rooms.
Shift: 10a - 10p, rotating weekends.
Job Summary: The Registered Nurse I (Virtual) assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient functional status. This position will assume accountability for patient care outcomes through the assimilation and application of evidence based practice to design, implement, and evaluate patient plans of care in a virtual environment setting.
Minimum Education: Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License.
Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of registered nurse experience in acute care setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making. Working knowledge of general disease state management processes, bio-psychosocial model, and clinical pathways. Ability to receive and understand information relayed through oral or electronic communication. Exceptional and effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Ability to demonstrate comfort and ease of familiarity with tele/virtual monitoring equipment. Demonstrates a high degree of professional competence and autonomy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Utilizes the nursing process to care for patients. Assesses, organizes, and completes patient care with consideration for patient, age, cultural and psychosocial factors. Documents steps of the nursing process. Utilizes proper medical terminology. Addresses problems and progress toward goals. Facilitates patient discharge through timely, appropriate referrals and utilization of patient education resources, suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate. Supports unit/hospital goals through PI and educational activities as evidenced by attending in-services, meeting unit education standards, and completing variance reports. Works to prevent patient problems from occurring by: direct observation via telemedicine technology, proactive surveillance of adverse physiological trends, assurance of appropriate prophylactic strategies, and medical chart review. Virtually evaluates patients, educates the patient and families on disease process and procedures and re-evaluates patients as appropriate. Performs the responsibilities of clinician, educator, consultant/collaborator and navigator during virtual appointments. Coaches and mentors nurses on the floor around the care of the patients. Maintains knowledge of rapidly changing technology and equipment used in patient care setting.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationship: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare or give. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
