What are some common challenges faced by remote offshore network engineers and how can they be managed?

Remote Offshore Network Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing connectivity across multiple time zones, troubleshooting issues without on-site access, and ensuring secure communication in offshore environments. To manage these, engineers typically rely on robust remote monitoring tools, clear documentation, and proactive communication with on-site personnel. Building strong relationships with local teams and maintaining flexible availability can also help quickly resolve urgent issues and keep network operations running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote offshore network engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Offshore Network Engineer, you need strong expertise in network design, troubleshooting, and implementation, typically supported by a degree in computer science or engineering and relevant certifications like Cisco CCNA/CCNP. Familiarity with network monitoring tools, satellite communication systems, and remote management platforms is essential. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and communication skills are crucial for addressing technical issues and collaborating with onshore and offshore teams. These abilities ensure reliable connectivity and operations in challenging offshore environments where immediate physical access is limited.

Job description

Contract • Fully Remote • ASAP Start • US Citizens & GC Holders Only

Pay Rate: $60–70/hr W2 | Weekly Pay | Long-Term Engagement

Overview

We are placing a Nutanix Migration Engineer on a long-term contract engagement supporting a Fortune-class financial services organization undergoing one of the largest VMware ESXi to Nutanix AHV migrations in the industry. The program spans approximately 3,000 production virtual machines across 58 migration waves, giving the right engineer real runway, real ownership, and real visibility.

This is a fully remote, hands-on execution role. You will be the technical backbone of the migration factory — configuring tooling, executing wave-based migrations, monitoring checkpoints, troubleshooting in real time, and partnering with application owners to land each VM cleanly on AHV.

What You Will Do

  • Validate per-wave migration requirements against the source vSphere environment
  • Deploy, configure, and operate Nutanix Move and supporting tooling for each migration wave
  • Configure network mappings, target containers, and migration plans
  • Execute VM migrations from vSphere to AHV in alignment with the published wave schedule
  • Monitor migration execution through defined checkpoints and raise issues promptly against the RAID log
  • Troubleshoot migration events including network reachability, driver/VirtIO state, boot validation, and storage mapping issues
  • Contribute to per-wave runbooks and participate in pre-cutover readiness reviews
  • Document migration outcomes, lessons learned, and wave closeout artifacts
  • Coordinate with application owners, project managers, and Nutanix Professional Services during cutovers
  • Participate in scheduled off-hours and weekend cutover windows aligned to client-approved change schedules

What You Bring

  • Active Nutanix certification: NCP-MCI at minimum; NCM-MCI or higher strongly preferred
  • Hands-on production experience administering Nutanix AHV clusters (Prism Element/Central, AOS lifecycle, storage containers, AHV networking)
  • Direct hands-on experience with Nutanix Move for ESXi-to-AHV migrations, including cutover planning, delta sync, and rollback procedures
  • Solid VMware vSphere/ESXi fluency — vCenter administration, VM lifecycle, virtual networking (vSwitch/dvSwitch), VMDK structures
  • Working knowledge of L2/L3 networking concepts as they apply to VM connectivity (VLANs, port groups, IP retention, MAC handling during migration)
  • Windows Server and Linux guest OS troubleshooting for boot, driver, and network issues post-migration
  • At least one completed enterprise-scale ESXi-to-AHV migration of 500+ VMs, or equivalent multi-wave migration program experience
  • Strong runbook, status update, and stakeholder communication skills
  • Willing and able to work scheduled off-hours, nights, and weekends during cutover windows
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident — no sponsorship available

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCM-MCI, NCP-DB, NCP-MCA, or NCX (Nutanix Certified Expert) certification
  • VMware VCP-DCV or equivalent VMware certification
  • Experience with Nutanix Flow Network Security, Nutanix Files, or Nutanix Objects
  • Experience migrating regulated workloads (financial services, insurance, healthcare) under strict change management requirements
  • PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripting for migration automation and reporting
  • Experience with backup platforms commonly used alongside HCI environments (HYCU, Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik)
  • Experience contributing to PMO-driven engagements with formal wave management, RAID logs, and steering committee reporting

Compensation & Benefits

  • $60–70/hr W2, paid weekly
  • Medical coverage: PPO and HMO options available
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Long-term engagement — real runway, not a short-term gig

Important Details

  • Fully remote
  • Long-term engagement
  • Off-hours and weekend cutover work required during scheduled change windows
  • Environment is a Fortune-class financial services organization
