Job Title: API Governance Lead
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)
Experience Required: 8–15 Years

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced API Governance Lead to establish, implement, and manage the enterprise-wide API Governance Framework. The ideal candidate will define governance policies, standards, security controls, and best practices to ensure APIs are secure, scalable, compliant, reusable, and aligned with enterprise architecture.
This role will work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Application Development, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Data Management, and Business stakeholders to drive API standardization and support digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
API Governance Strategy
  • Design and maintain the enterprise-wide API Governance Framework.
  • Establish API governance policies, standards, principles, and operating procedures.
  • Define API maturity models, governance KPIs, and success metrics.
  • Develop standards for the complete API lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
  • Promote API-first architecture across business and technology teams.
API Architecture & Design Governance
  • Define API design standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Govern REST, GraphQL, SOAP, and Event-Driven API architectures.
  • Review and approve API specifications and architecture designs.
  • Ensure consistency in API versioning, metadata, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Promote API reuse and discoverability across the enterprise.
Security & Compliance
  • Develop API security standards aligned with industry best practices.
  • Implement and govern:
    • OAuth 2.0
    • OpenID Connect (OIDC)
    • JWT
    • mTLS
    • API Gateway Security Controls
    • Rate Limiting
    • API Threat Protection
  • Conduct API security reviews and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security teams to identify and mitigate API vulnerabilities.
API Lifecycle Management
  • Implement governance controls across the entire API lifecycle.
  • Establish API onboarding, approval, and review workflows.
  • Manage API inventory, catalog, and service registry.
  • Oversee API versioning and deprecation strategies.
  • Ensure APIs are properly documented, maintained, and monitored.
Stakeholder Management
  • Partner with business units to understand API consumption requirements.
  • Work closely with Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, and DevOps teams to enforce governance standards.
  • Conduct governance reviews and executive reporting.
  • Lead API Governance forums, review boards, and architecture discussions.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master''s degree preferred.
Experience
  • 8–15 years of overall IT experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • API Governance
    • API Management
    • Enterprise Architecture
    • Cloud Architecture
  • Experience implementing API Governance programs in large enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with API security frameworks and governance controls.
  • Experience working in Agile, DevOps, and DevSecOps environments.
