Job description

Description

Are you an experienced direct response fundraising leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, creativity, analytics, and client partnership? Do you love leading complex fundraising programs that not only perform, but help mission-driven organizations make a meaningful impact in the world?

Avalon is a full-service marketing agency that partners with nonprofits to help them raise the funds needed to advance their causes like environmental conservation, social justice, and cultural arts.

As a Senior Account Director, you'll serve as a senior strategic lead for major client accounts, directing fundraising campaigns from initial concept development through final reporting and analysis. You'll guide direct mail, digital, texting/telemarketing, and other integrated fundraising efforts, while partnering closely with clients, internal teams, vendors, and senior leadership to ensure campaigns are thoughtful, high-quality, data-informed, and results-driven.

This role will support a large, complex direct mail program for one of Avalon's clients, so candidates must bring proven experience managing large-scale direct mail fundraising programs within an agency environment. This will be an opportunity to lead meaningful work, mentor talented colleagues, deepen client partnerships, and help shape the success of a large nonprofit organization.

What You'll Do with Us:

  • Serve as a senior strategic lead and primary client contact for major nonprofit fundraising accounts, building strong relationships and ensuring high-quality campaign execution.
  • Lead strategy and oversight for a large, complex direct mail program, including planning, budgets, creative direction, segmentation, production, reporting, and optimization.
  • Direct integrated fundraising campaigns across direct mail, digital, texting/telemarketing, and other channels, ensuring each effort is strategically aligned and performance-driven.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and partners to develop compelling, effective campaigns grounded in strong creative and data-informed decision-making.
  • Lead client presentations, campaign reviews, annual planning discussions, and performance updates with clarity and confidence.
  • Mentor, supervise, and develop program management team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support.
  • Contribute to client cultivation, business development, and other efforts that support Avalon's continued growth and client success.

Requirements

What We Need:

We're looking for someone with at least eight years of progressive experience in direct response fundraising, including significant direct mail experience, client leadership, and staff supervision. Candidates must have experience managing large, complex direct mail fundraising programs in an agency environment from strategy through execution, budgeting, reporting, and optimization. The most qualified candidates will also have:

  • Strong understanding of integrated fundraising channels, including direct mail, digital fundraising, texting, and telemarketing.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing direct reports or project teams.
  • Strong client management skills and the ability to build trusted, long-term relationships with clients, partners, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present strategy, results, and recommendations to clients and senior leaders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, details, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance big-picture thinking and executional detail.
  • A collaborative, inclusive, solutions-oriented approach to challenges, change, and team leadership.
  • Curiosity and a desire to stay current on industry trends, emerging channels, and evolving fundraising best practices.

Why you will love Avalon:

Since 1997, Avalon has been committed to making the world a better place by helping our clients raise the millions of dollars needed to fulfill their inspiring missions. We've created a culture unlike any other agency. We are proud to be a fully remote workplace- hiring the best fundraisers in the business, no matter where they work. We also love getting together for team and client meetings when necessary. We're strategic, analytical, innovative, collaborative, compassionate, and most of all: passionate about our work. We love what we do, and it shows in our engaged teams, industry awards, and delighted clients.

Avalon is proud of our supportive and collaborative team environment that encourages professional development while recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance. We are committed to fostering a culture that embraces differences every day, and where each of our staff is supported and inspired to reach their full potential.

We are a fully remote workplace with team members working from home offices located across the United States. Occasional travel will be required for client meetings, conferences, or team gatherings.ย

Besides being a great place to work, we are pleased to offer a rich, comprehensive benefit plan, including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid leave, employer-paid life and disability insurance, and a safe harbor 401(k) plan.

The salary range for this position is $95,000-$105,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

If this sounds like an opportunity that you're excited to pursue, we would love to hear from you! For consideration, please apply by submitting your resume and a cover letter at the link provided.
