The Knowledge Management & Innovation (KMI) Attorney drives business transformation and operational efficiency by developing and implementing innovative solutions that align with the firmโ€™s strategic objectives. This role focuses on optimizing client service delivery, streamlining business processes, and fostering the adoption of technology across the Labor & Employmentย Practice Service Center (PSC). The KMI Attorney acts as a key liaison between the PSC, the Knowledge Management (KM) team, and firm leadership to identify and address complex business challenges, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and deliver impactful legal technology solutions. Essential job functions include:ย 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary KM and Innovation liaison to the Labor & Employment PSC.ย 
  • Lead and advise the PSC in identifying opportunities for technology-driven improvements and process optimization.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, fostering collaboration between KM, IT, and practice teams to evaluate and implement innovative solutions, including AI tools.ย 

Technology & Innovation

  • Identify, assess, and pilot new and existing legal technology tools based on PSC needs.
  • Prototype and demonstrate technology solutions, including AI and document automation platforms.
  • Capture and relay user feedback to enhance KM solutions and drive continuous improvement.

Change Management & Adoption

  • Champion technology adoption and positive organizational change, ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Support pilots, beta tests, and business development initiatives to promote the firmโ€™s KM program and innovative practices.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and support materials to drive user engagement and adoption.

Project Management & Strategic Planning

  • Vet, plan, and execute KM and innovation projects, ensuring alignment with firm goals and ROI.
  • Document, track, and report on project progress in collaboration with the KM Project Management Team.
  • Monitor legal technology trends and participate in relevant firm and industry events.

Document Automation & Prototyping

  • Develop and refine document automation prototypes, ensuring integration with databases and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Implement customization features and feedback mechanisms for continuous tool improvement.
  • Conduct live demonstrations, pilot programs, and share success stories to illustrate value and drive adoption of KM developed tools, AI tools, and other legal technology collaborations.

Position Requirements

  • J.D. and a 4-year degree in a relevant field required.
  • Minimum 5 yearsโ€™ experience as a practicing attorney or in KM/innovation within professional services.
  • Proven experience with legal technology, project management, and business planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and innovative mindset.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience.ย The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.ย The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

  • State of California: $151,000 - $308,000
  • State of Colorado: $139,000 - $248,000
  • State of Illinois: $136,000 - $265,000
  • State of Maryland: $146,000 - $222,000
  • State of Massachusetts: $151,000 - $289,000
  • State of Minnesota: $151,000 - $250,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $164,000 - $297,000
  • State of New York: $141,000 - $304,000
  • State of Vermont: $149,000 - $286,000
  • State of Washington: $146,000 - $278,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $195,000 - $286,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
