What is remote military engineering?

Remote military engineering involves the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of military infrastructure and systems from a distance, often using digital tools and technologies. Professionals in this field may work on projects such as fortifications, bridges, or communication networks, frequently supporting operations without being physically present on-site. The role often leverages remote collaboration, advanced software, and sometimes robotics or drones to accomplish engineering objectives in support of military missions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote military engineer?

To excel as a Remote Military Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, problem-solving, and a relevant degree such as in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, often with security clearance. Familiarity with CAD software, remote communication platforms, and military-grade systems or certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and clear communication skills are crucial for effective collaboration and mission success in remote or high-stakes environments. These competencies ensure precise technical solutions, operational security, and seamless teamwork even when working from a distance.

What are some common challenges faced by remote military engineers?

Remote military engineering professionals often encounter the challenge of collaborating with multidisciplinary teams spread across different time zones and locations. Communication and coordination require strong digital skills and the ability to adapt to secure virtual platforms. Additionally, they may need to quickly respond to evolving project requirements or operational changes, necessitating flexibility and strong problem-solving abilities. Despite these challenges, the role offers valuable opportunities to work with advanced technologies and support mission-critical operations from a distance.

What is the difference between Remote Military Engineering vs Remote Civil Engineering?

Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

Remote Military Engineering and Remote Civil Engineering share similarities in requiring engineering degrees and technical skills. However, military engineering often involves security clearances and working on defense-related projects, while civil engineering focuses on infrastructure and urban development. Both roles are increasingly available remotely, but their work environments and employer types differ significantly.

How much do remote military engineers make?

Remote military engineers typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, security clearance, and specific responsibilities. Salaries can vary based on the employer, location, and required technical skills such as CAD, systems analysis, or project management.

Which remote military engineering jobs can be done remotely?

Remote military engineering jobs typically include roles such as civil or structural engineers, systems engineers, and technical analysts that focus on design, planning, and analysis tasks. These positions often require specialized knowledge, security clearances, and proficiency with engineering software, and they can be performed remotely when project scope and security protocols permit.

Modeling and Simulation Integrations Engineer
The Opportunity:
Designing a training environment that perfectly mirrors real-world space operations requires more than just advanced software, it requires a deep understanding of how those operational systems communicate across a network. As an integration engineer, you know the importance of ensuring applications, systems, and technical specifications work together. You're eager to apply your engineering and technical knowledge to develop creative solutions for national defense.
On our team, you'll design, develop, and implement solutions for software integration projects across functions or between organizations that'll directly impact joint exercises, wargames, and experiments for the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM). Using the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC) and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) processes, you'll work alongside the branch's engineers, software developers, system FSRs, and MBSE specialists to integrate data flows across classified local, distributed, and cloud networks and enclaves. You'll use tools like visualization software, modern web APIs, ontology-based systems, and cloud environments such as AWS GovCloud or AWS Secret Region, to plan, organize, and conduct integration projects that meet design specifications and standards from inception to completion.
In this role, you'll impact national security by coordinating with stakeholders to develop, maintain, and deliver critical cybersecurity artifacts such as network topologies and data-flow diagrams, that enable Risk Management Framework (RMF), Authorities to Operate (ATOs), and Authorities to Connect (ATCs). With opportunities to learn new tools and skills, we focus on growing and collaborating as a team to make the best solutions for our customers.
Work with us to ensure USSPACECOM trains the way they fight.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • Ability to map network architectures using visualization software
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, CS, Systems Engineering, IT, or a STEM field and 1+ years of experience working in a networking, cybersecurity, or IT role, or 2+ years of experience working in a networking, cybersecurity, or IT role in lieu of a degree
  • DoD 8140 or 8570 baseline Certification such as Security+ Certification

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience in DoD IT, C4I planning, systems engineering, or Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) integration
  • Experience planning network routes into AWS GovCloud, AWS Secret Region, or other DoD-approved cloud environments
  • Knowledge of how data flows into ontology-based systems and modern web APIs
  • Knowledge of simulation interoperability standards such as the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), High Level Architecture (HLA), or TENA
  • Knowledge of port, protocol, and service management (PPSM) requests
  • Knowledge of standardized military engineering requests and JELC documents

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
