The Team: 

Upstart's Offer Delivery Team is focused on driving growth by deepening relationships with our existing users. Our vision is to create an always-available credit experience that continuously guarantees access to Upstart's credit products for all users. Make credit access instant, predictable, and effortless through intelligent offer generation and merchandising that will engage our users with relevant, timely offers that enhance their financial journey.

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Upstart, you will play a crucial role in shaping how we drive user growth and engagement through intelligent targeting, strategic product recommendations, and best-in-class offer generation infrastructure that scales. You'll be responsible for generating personalized offer experiences, enhancing out-of-funnel cross-sell strategies, advancing our offer orchestration infra, optimizing cost, and closely working with our ML team to produce better outcomes for our users  . Your work will directly contribute to growing our existing and newer products, increasing customer lifetime value and helping more users access the right financial products at the right time.

How you'll make an impact

  • Define and implement an engineering roadmap that supports intelligent and personalized offer and product recommendations to our user base
  • Work with cross functional partners including Product Managers, Product Marketing Managers, and Research Scientists to make this a highly impactful program
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team directly, focused on providing high quality solutions and incrementally enhance systems with each pull request.
  • Leverage experimentation and data-driven insights to refine growth strategies, optimizing user engagement and conversion through continuous testing, iteration, and personalization.
  • Create a best-in-class offer generation infrastructure that scales with our user base and all Upstart products. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 8 years of experience, including at least 3 years of direct people management experience
  • Experience leading product oriented teams with quantifiable user impact 
  • Ability to convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with growth engineering product stacks (Optimizations, Experimentation, Personalization, Recommendation Systems, etc)
  • Experience working on a product with marketplace dynamics
  • Proven track record of leading and growing engineering teams
  • Success in driving initiatives spanning multiple teams across organizations
  • Skilled in scaling systems in both a technical and organizational capacity

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote 

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions' cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.
