What is a freelance merchandiser?

A Freelance Merchandiser is an independent professional who works with brands or retailers to ensure products are displayed effectively in stores. They handle tasks like stocking shelves, setting up promotional displays, and maintaining visual merchandising standards. Unlike full-time merchandisers, freelancers work on a contract basis, allowing for flexibility in scheduling and client selection. This role requires attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills to collaborate with stores and suppliers successfully.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a freelance merchandiser?

As a Freelance Merchandiser, your daily tasks often include setting up product displays, ensuring shelves are fully stocked, rotating inventory, and following planograms provided by clients or retailers. You may also be responsible for taking inventory counts, checking product expiration dates, and reporting on stock levels or store conditions through mobile apps or online systems. Since this role often involves visiting multiple retail locations independently, strong time management and reliable transportation are essential. Additionally, you'll frequently interact with store staff and managers to coordinate merchandising needs and troubleshoot any issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance merchandiser?

To succeed as a Freelance Merchandiser, you need a solid understanding of retail merchandising principles, visual display techniques, and inventory management, often complemented by prior experience in retail or merchandising roles. Familiarity with planogram software, inventory tracking tools, and reporting apps is commonly expected. Excellent organization, communication skills, and self-motivation distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure effective execution of merchandise strategies, timely task completion, and strong partnerships with store personnel and brands.

Job description

Senior Graphic Designer Hartmann&Forbes® | Tualatin, Oregon | On-site

About the role

Hartmann&Forbes is hiring a Senior Graphic Designer to lead creative production and elevate the visual brand across print and digital. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you will translate creative direction into finished work, build the systems that sustain brand consistency, and raise the standard for everything that carries our name.

You will report to the Director of Marketing and work across the full brand output, from the Reference Kit and seasonal tabloids to photography production, merchandising, and the website.

What you will own

Design and layout for brand and sales assets, including the Brand Book, Product Portfolio, Style Guide, Price List, tabloids, email, and collateral. Creative production workflows from brief through final delivery. Brand Guidelines, quality standards, and template systems. Photography shot lists, post-production, and asset libraries. Merchandising, event, and showroom materials. Visual execution for the website. Management of internal designers and freelance production artists. Vendor and print production coordination.

What we are looking for

Bachelor's degree in Design or a related field. 5+ years of experience in a multi-channel environment. 5+ years of supervisory experience. A genuine eye for high-end interior design and an understanding of the trade. Fluency in both creative and business software. Print production experience. Strong communication and follow-up skills. The organizational discipline to manage multiple projects without losing quality. Comfort working without a project manager in a self-directed environment.

Experience in premium or trade-focused markets is a strong advantage.
