Remote Medical Coding Trainee information

What is a remote medical coding trainee?

A Remote Medical Coding Trainee is an entry-level professional who is learning how to assign standardized codes to medical diagnoses and procedures for healthcare billing and record-keeping, all while working from a remote location. Trainees usually work under supervision and may be employed by hospitals, clinics, or third-party billing companies. Training typically involves learning coding systems like ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS, as well as understanding healthcare regulations and patient privacy laws. This role is ideal for those seeking a flexible, work-from-home career in healthcare administration. Upon successful completion of training and certification, trainees can advance to full medical coder positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote medical coding trainee?

To excel as a Remote Medical Coding Trainee, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems like ICD-10 and CPT, typically supported by a relevant certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software is often required for accurate and efficient work. Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work independently are essential soft skills for remote success. These competencies ensure precise coding, compliance with regulations, and productivity in a self-directed, remote environment.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote medical coding trainees during the onboarding process?

Remote Medical Coding Trainees often encounter challenges such as adapting to virtual communication with supervisors and team members, grasping complex coding systems like ICD-10 and CPT, and managing productivity without direct in-person guidance. Successful trainees usually develop strong self-discipline, prioritize ongoing learning, and proactively seek feedback to ensure accuracy and compliance. Collaboration tools, regular team check-ins, and mentorship programs are commonly provided to support new hires during their transition.

What is the difference between Remote Medical Coding Trainee vs Remote Medical Coding Specialist?

The main difference is that a Remote Medical Coding Trainee is in training, focusing on learning and gaining experience, while a Remote Medical Coding Specialist is an experienced professional responsible for accurate coding tasks independently.

Can you get a remote medical coding trainee job with no experience?

Remote medical coding trainee positions often do not require prior experience, as they are designed for beginners. Candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, and completing a coding training program or certification such as CPC can improve chances. On-the-job training is common, and some employers may accept candidates with strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

How to get hired as a remote medical coding trainee with no experience?

To get hired as a remote medical coding trainee with no experience, focus on completing a recognized medical coding training program and obtaining an entry-level certification such as the CPC. Building foundational knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and using coding software can improve your chances, and applying to companies that offer training programs or internships can provide practical experience.

Is it difficult to get a remote medical coding trainee job?

Securing a remote medical coding trainee position can be competitive, but having relevant certifications such as CPC and basic knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines improves chances. Entry-level roles often require some training or coursework, and strong attention to detail is essential for success in this field.

Job description

Agentic Software Engineer II (Remote)

arrivia Remote (US) Full-time

About arrivia

arrivia specializes in making brands better through the power of travel. The company is a merger of three powerhouse brands, ICE, SOR Technology, and WMPH Vacations, with offices on both coasts of the US and around the world. arrivia is focused on building a customer-first culture, fueled by the best travel experiences for members at every point in their journey. Core values: Stay Curious, Keep it Real, Own it, Win Together.

About the Role

As an Agentic Software Engineer II, you are a product-minded, customer-focused, full-stack engineer who builds and ships features using AI coding agents as everyday development tools. Working under general supervision with moderate autonomy, you independently deliver well-scoped features from implementation through production, using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot to write better code, faster.

You exercise sound judgment on implementation approach and quality trade-offs, with your decisions directly affecting feature delivery timelines and code maintainability. You consult with senior engineers on architectural decisions and raise risks that require team-level discussion.

This role is remote within the United States. arrivia is currently able to hire in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and deliver features and services for the travel platform on a full-stack product development team
  • Apply strong proficiency with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in daily development workflows to accelerate delivery and improve code quality
  • Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance before merging
  • Contribute to refactoring and modernizing existing services and architectures using cloud-native design patterns
  • Write clean, testable, peer-reviewed, and well-optimized code, whether authored manually or collaboratively with AI agents
  • Contribute to improving development and operations of an increasingly distributed architecture
  • Advocate for quality, durability, and technical debt reduction with Product Owners, Engineering Managers, and Product Designers
  • Safeguard the privacy, security, and trust of members' sensitive data in partnership with Risk and Security teams
  • Contribute to meeting backend and system SLOs as part of the broader engineering team
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 5 years of full-stack development experience building web applications and services
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience using AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in professional development workflows
  • Proficiency in two or more of TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or C#/.NET
  • Experience with a modern frontend framework: React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular
  • Experience building and deploying applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Awareness of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and how it enables AI agents to interact with external tools and data sources
  • Working knowledge of Azure AI Foundry, RAG, LangChain, and graph-based data technologies (GraphRAG, GraphDB) is a plus
  • Familiarity with real-time streaming or distributed messaging platforms such as Redis, Kafka, or RabbitMQ
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Agile software delivery experience
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $119,000-$188,000 annually, based on Provn's market benchmarking. Benefits include access to arrivia's private travel marketplace with deeply discounted rates on cruises, resorts, and hotels, robust medical, dental, and vision insurance, and 401(k) with company matching, inside a remote-friendly culture that spans US and international time zones.

How to Apply

To apply for this role, you must create an account on provn.co and submit all required application artifacts. Resume only applications may be considered, but candidates who complete a full application are reviewed with priority.

How hiring works here: Referrals are king for getting an interview. But what if you don't have a referral? Applying with Provn is designed to help you get more interviews. Instead of sending a cold resume into an ATS and waiting, you will complete a challenge built by arrivia and submit a short video walking through your approach. No time limit. No timers. No restrictions on AI usage. Show how you build with AI.

  • You show how you actually build and ship with coding agents, instead of hoping a resume communicates your skill clearly.
  • Your judgment with AI becomes visible, which no "proficient with AI coding agents" resume bullet can prove.
  • One challenge puts you in front of the engineering team, scored on the work. Priority without a referral!

The hiring manager reviews every completed submission, and strongest candidates go straight to an interview round. No referral needed. Performance over pedigree. Proof over polish.
