What is a remote mediator?

A Remote Mediator facilitates conflict resolution between parties through virtual communication methods such as video calls, phone, or email. They help negotiate agreements in legal disputes, workplace conflicts, family matters, or business disagreements. Remote Mediators use negotiation techniques, active listening, and neutrality to guide discussions and help parties reach a fair resolution. This role requires strong communication skills, impartiality, and problem-solving abilities. Many mediators work independently or for legal, corporate, or nonprofit organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote mediator?

To thrive as a Remote Mediator, you need strong conflict resolution skills, a thorough understanding of mediation processes, and typically a background in law, counseling, or dispute resolution with relevant certifications. Proficiency with video conferencing platforms, case management software, and secure document sharing systems is essential. Outstanding listening abilities, neutrality, emotional intelligence, and clear written and verbal communication help you stand out in this role. These competencies ensure effective, impartial facilitation of virtual negotiations and foster positive outcomes for all parties involved.

What are some common challenges faced by remote mediators when facilitating virtual sessions?

Remote Mediators often encounter challenges such as managing technical issues, ensuring confidentiality in remote settings, and building rapport without face-to-face interaction. Maintaining participant engagement and reading nonverbal cues over video or phone calls can also be more demanding compared to in-person mediation. Successful Remote Mediators develop strategies to foster trust, set clear ground rules, and utilize digital tools to facilitate open communication. Being prepared for these hurdles and addressing them proactively is key to maintaining a productive and fair mediation process.

Job description

Family Law Attorney

(Flexible, Remote, Part-to-Full-Time Path)

Are you an experienced Colorado Family Law Attorney looking to step away from the traditional firm grind without stepping away from meaningful legal work? If you want a sustainable, rewarding practice that respects your time, autonomy, and personal life, this role may be the perfect fit.

Philip Goldberg PC is seeking a seasoned Family Law Attorney to join our small, remote-friendly practice and manage domestic relations cases with independence and confidence. This position is designed to begin as overflow support and gradually build into a full caseload over time (6 to 9 months) — ideal for an attorney who values flexibility, balance, and high-quality work without the constraints of a traditional office environment. Or perhaps you want to maintain a smaller caseload? For the right attorney, that is an option, too!

Why This Role Stands Out

A Thoughtful Re-Entry Opportunity

This position is exceptionally well-suited for an experienced practitioner who may have stepped away from full-time practice (e.g., stay-at-home parent, sabbatical, career pivot) and is ready to re-engage with meaningful legal work at a sustainable pace.

Autonomy From Day One

You must be capable of independently managing domestic relations files, conducting hearings, and trying cases without hand-holding. This role is not appropriate for recent graduates or attorneys seeking intensive supervision.

True Flexibility

Work 100% remotely, set your own schedule, and maintain control over your work-life balance. Outside of trials, hearings, and monthly team lunches, your time is yours.

About the Firm

Philip Goldberg PC is a boutique family law practice with an AV-Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and recognition in Best Lawyers in America for Family Law. We operate with a small, collaborative team that values excellence, integrity, and a healthy work-life balance. Every case is handled with care, experience, and professionalism.

Learn more about the practice here.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage overflow and new cases from start to finish, including court appearances, mediations, and all aspects of case strategy

  • Work independently with support from an experienced paralegal, taking the lead on cases with minimal supervision

  • Participate in a phased caseload rollout: new matters will be alternated evenly with the current associate until you reach your desired capacity

  • Ensure timely, accurate, high-quality work product

  • Attend monthly virtual team meetings to maintain alignment and smooth collaboration

  • Join monthly team lunches to foster connection and communication

Requirements

  • Active Colorado law license

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience practicing family law, with substantial domestic relations experience (divorce, APR, post-decree, high-asset matters, etc.)

  • First-chair trial experience required — must be able to try a domestic relations case end-to-end

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage cases autonomously from day one

  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Comfortable operating in a fully remote environment

Benefits & Compensation

  • $150/hr (DOE)

  • Fully remote work with flexible scheduling

  • No minimum billable hours

  • No pressure to bring in business

  • Unique opportunity to prioritize work-life balance

  • Potential for growth as the practice expands

  • Supportive, collaborative team culture

  • Paid sick leave
