Job description

Position Title: Mechanical Engineer
This position is a fully remote Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing and upgrading laser printing setups for customers in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and packaging equipment industries. The role encompasses a dynamic blend of field service and office work within the coding and marking division. The engineer will engage directly with clients, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in manufacturing plant environments. The position demands a balance between technical design work and customer-facing responsibilities, with travel expected to be between 25% and 50%. A flexible work style is essential to adapt to varying client needs and schedules.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000 / Year DOE
Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Conduct 60-70% mechanical design and related reviews, including custom accessories such as stands and shields
  • Perform 30-40% site surveys, customer meetings, and provide scoping and budgetary support alongside Account Managers
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities for solo on-site work, supporting installations, and field technicians
  • Maintain a balance between technical work and customer/sales-facing communication

Mechanical Engineer Requirements:
  • A valid completed four-year engineering degree with a preference for mechanical engineering
  • Mechanical engineering background with experience in 3D design
  • Customer-facing communication skills; not solely a backroom designer
  • Prior exposure to manufacturing plant environments and constraints
  • Willingness and ability to travel 25-50%
  • Comfortable operating independently on customer sites with a professional and flexible work style
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency with CAD, with Inventor preferred; SolidWorks or Pro-E acceptable
  • Applications engineering for manufacturing facilities is preferred
  • Experience as a plant engineer, corporate engineer, OEM engineer, or sales engineer with a strong engineering focus is preferred
  • Industry exposure in food, beverage, pharma, or packaging equipment, specifically in coding and marking, is preferred

Benefits:
  • Two healthcare plans available: a traditional PPO plan and a high-deductible health plan
  • The healthcare provider is BCBS of Illinois
  • 401K with a 100% match on the first 4% and a 50% match on the next 2%
  • Standard PTO includes 10 vacation days, 5 sick days, and 2 floating holidays, with the potential for negotiation
  • Paid company shutdown between Christmas and New Year's, providing approximately four weeks off
