What is a Remote Mechanic job?

A Remote Mechanic job involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and assisting with vehicle repairs remotely, often using video calls, online chats, or diagnostic tools. Instead of working in a traditional shop, remote mechanics guide vehicle owners or on-site technicians through repair processes. This role is ideal for experienced mechanics who want to leverage their expertise without physically handling vehicles.

Over time, remote mechanics may have opportunities to specialize in certain types of equipment or move into supervisory roles within remote support teams.

  • Develop commissioning scopes of work and RFPs for third-party commissioning partners
  • Support onboarding and oversight of third-party commissioning agents
  • Review commissioning schedules, test scripts, and execution plans
  • Partner with Construction, Design, QC, and Integration teams to align testing and turnover strategies
  • Oversee commissioning activities for fit-outs, retrofits, and multi-site deployments
  • Ensure commissioning work meets Switch program standards and customer requirements
  • Identify commissioning risks and drive resolution before system turnover
  • Review commissioning documentation, reporting, and test results for accuracy
  • Support knowledge sharing and mentoring across the commissioning program
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong technical judgment in mission-critical commissioning environments
  • Clear and direct communication across technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to lead through influence across cross-functional groups
  • Strong ownership of timelines, quality standards, and project outcomes
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time
  • Comfortable working in active construction and live operating environments
  • Willingness to validate work in the field when needed
  • Consistent follow-through and attention to detail
What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in mission-critical facilities such as data centers, substations, or power generation
  • Experience in commissioning, design, construction, or operations of critical infrastructure
  • Experience overseeing third-party contractors or commissioning agents
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in data centers
  • Familiarity with EPMS, SCADA, or BMS platforms
  • Knowledge of regional building codes and safety standards
  • Ability to travel locally, domestically, and internationally

Preferred:

  • Industry-related degree or technical certifications
  • Experience delivering fast-track design-build projects or major infrastructure upgrades

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours during peak project periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Comfortable working near live electrical and mechanical equipment

If you meet most of the qualifications but not all, we encourage you to apply.
