Job description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Furniture Engineer performs advanced engineering work that requires professional expertise, independent judgment, and technical decision-making throughout the product development cycle. This position leads and executes complex product engineering activities, including reviewing project requirements, developing manufacturing solutions, and ensuring all designs meet structural, quality, and performance standards. The Furniture Engineer is responsible for creating and implementing the technical design strategy for each project, interpreting specifications, resolving engineering challenges, and coordinating with cross-functional teams—including Product Management, Purchasing, Mexico and China Engineering—to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing. The role exercises discretion in evaluating materials, 

construction methods, performance risks, and compliance with company engineering standards. This position ensures each furniture item reflects best practices in engineering design and adheres to high standards of quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction, while contributing to continuous improvement of internal processes, documentation, and engineering workflows.

$72,000 - $80,000 Annual Salary DOE

Essential Duties

  • Draft and review product schematics based on project parameters and build models of new 
  • product designs utilizing CAD software and other applications/methods. 
  • Conduct market research and analysis to understand furniture landscape to help inform and 
  • create innovative designs to meet client needs. 
  • Proactively participates in the design and development of new products, from idea generation to 
  • product launch. 
  • Develops options to improve existing products from a quality, construction, functionality, ease of 
  • assembly, etc., while being cost conscious to offer the best value.
  • Provides critical guidance to the engineering department/function using technical knowledge and skilled expertise in the field of Furniture Engineering.
  • Responsible for confirming that the design, materials, and production meet the company’s required standards or “metrics” for quality, performance, and accuracy.
  • Identifies potential areas of product improvement; recommends and assists with development of appropriate solutions.
  • Provides recommendations to the Estimating Department on how to value engineering product. 
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Team to review product and provide feedback on production/construction inquiries. 
  • Supports the Estimating and Project Management departments by providing technical and production expertise throughout the project lifecycle. This includes offering value-engineering recommendations to the Estimating team to optimize product design and cost efficiency, as well as assisting Project Managers by participating in conference calls with customers to review products, address production or construction-related questions, and ensure alignment between project specifications and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable company and client quality requirements in all assigned programs, functions, products, and areas.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots problems with specific processes or products, escalating to leadership when necessary. 
  • Assists the department in the development of new methods to improve product quality and process efficacy and efficiency.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned as determined by management.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar discipline preferred.
  • Three or more years of related experience in a similar role required. 
  • Previous experience in hospitality furniture manufacturing: furniture construction methods, materials, finishes, upholstery, indoor/outdoor offerings, etc. 
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlooks, etc.), video conference/chat applications (e.g., Zoom, Teams, etc.), and other common office applications.
  • Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) and rendering programs (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD-Required, Keyshot, Adobe Suite, etc.). 
  • May Require 30% travel both domestic and international (A few days at a time and some overnights), after the first year of employment.
  • Onsite work is required.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

The majority of work is performed in an indoor office setting. You must follow all Company policies on safety and security of company property. You are expected to inquire about safety and ergonomics when uncertain or entering a new work environment where hazards may be present. Employees are expected to abide by safety procedures in effect at any additional worksites, vendor/client offices, etc. You must be able to sit at and navigate a computer workstation for up to eight hours per day. You may
