Job Description
Apple Pi Education is seeking College Student Mentors to join our Virtual Math Your Mind Mentorship Program. This role is ideal for college students interested in education, STEM, youth mentorship, or community engagement who want to make an impact from anywhere.
Mentors work alongside lead facilitators to support K-12 students during interactive online math activities and help create a positive, encouraging digital learning environment. Your primary goal will be to support students in building their mathematics identities, helping them see themselves as capable and confident problem solvers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor Small Groups (Virtual): Manage and lead virtual breakout rooms with 2-10 students, ensuring focused support and active participation via video conference.
  • Support Weekly Sessions: Commit to logging in for weekly sessions to ensure consistency and build strong virtual relationships with students.
  • Facilitate Digital Learning: Support lead facilitators during online math workshops, guiding students through digital math tools, virtual manipulatives, and screen-sharing activities (focusing primarily on grades 4-7 while supporting K-12 students generally).
  • Build Confidence: Help students overcome "math anxiety" during online games and problem-solving challenges, fostering a safe space where mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities.
  • Be a Role Model: Share your personal story and interests (hobbies, sports, arts) to show that being "math smart" goes hand-in-hand with being a fun, well-rounded individual.
  • Provide Encouragement: Offer individualized support to students as needed, modeling curiosity, teamwork, and positive behavior.
