Job description

ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE

Do you enjoy writing and want to build a career in sports digital media? The Sporting News is seeking an ambitious, motivated and creative recent college graduate for a paid six-month content producer internship from August 2026 through February 2027.

This is a hands-on editorial role supporting The Sporting News and its growing network of media and commercial partnerships. You will write content for Sporting News platforms as well as regional sports network partners, including NESN and SportsNet Pittsburgh (SNP), producing coverage tailored to national, Boston and Pittsburgh audiences.

You will create content across a wide range of topics and formats, from breaking news and live-event coverage to evergreen, lifestyle and affiliate content. No two days will look the same. One assignment may involve reacting quickly to a major sports story, while the next could focus on building a search-friendly guide, supporting a partner’s coverage strategy or contributing to a live blog around a marquee event.

You will work closely with Sporting News editors to learn how content is planned, written, packaged and distributed for different audiences and platforms. You will also gain experience collaborating across departments and understanding how editorial content supports audience growth, partnerships and commercial objectives.

Throughout the internship, you will learn how Sporting News works with partners, applies SEO and audience best practices, covers major sporting events and creates content that delivers value for readers, media partners and commercial brands.

WHEN AND WHERE IS IT?

Dates: August 2026 - February 2027
Pay: $15 per hour, up to 40 hours per week
Location: Remote or Charlotte, N.C.

Apply by August 14, 2026

  • Cover breaking news and produce timely content around major stories, games and sporting events
  • Produce and manage live coverage, including live blogs, game updates and event-based content
  • Write and update evergreen articles designed to serve readers throughout the sports calendar
  • Create content for The Sporting News and its partners, including regional sports networks NESN and SportsNet Pittsburgh and other sports media brands

  • Update existing articles to ensure information remains accurate, useful and timely
  • Collaborate with editors, writers and other departments to support partnership and audience-growth initiatives
  • Learn how editorial content contributes to the broader commercial value of a global sports media organization

REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be able to commit to the entire six-month program. For this reason, we consider only recent graduates who are less than 12 months removed from completing their degree
  • An ability to work quickly, accurately and efficiently in a digital news environment
  • Strong news judgment and an understanding of what makes a sports story timely, relevant and interesting
  • The ability to write clean, concise and engaging content in a variety of digital formats
  • Strong knowledge of major North American professional and collegiate sports
  • An interest in covering a variety of subjects, including sports, lifestyle, live events and affiliate content
  • A basic understanding of SEO best practices and digital audience development
  • An entrepreneurial and curious mindset with an eagerness to pitch ideas, test new approaches and learn
  • The versatility to move between breaking news, evergreen assignments and partner-specific projects
  • Strong grammar skills, meticulous attention to detail and a firm grasp of AP style
