Remote Mapping Validation information

What is remote mapping validation?

Remote mapping validation is the process of verifying and ensuring the accuracy of digital maps and spatial data without physically visiting the locations. Professionals in this field use satellite imagery, aerial photos, GPS data, and various mapping tools to check that mapped features correspond to real-world conditions. This job is essential for keeping online maps, navigation systems, and geographic information systems (GIS) up to date and reliable. Remote mapping validation is commonly used in industries like transportation, urban planning, disaster response, and environmental monitoring.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Mapping Validation Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Mapping Validation Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in geography, GIS, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS software (such as ArcGIS or QGIS), map editing tools, and possibly certifications in geospatial technologies are highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and self-motivation are important soft skills for remote work and effective collaboration. These skills ensure the accuracy and reliability of mapping data, which is crucial for navigation, planning, and location-based services.

What is the difference between Remote Mapping Validation vs Remote GIS Technician?

Remote Mapping Validation focuses on verifying and ensuring the accuracy of geographic data remotely, often involving quality control and data validation tasks. In contrast, Remote GIS Technicians handle GIS data creation, analysis, and mapping projects. Both roles require GIS certifications and software skills but differ in their primary functions—validation versus data management.

What are some common challenges faced in a Remote Mapping Validation role, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in Remote Mapping Validation is ensuring data accuracy when working with diverse datasets from multiple sources. Because team members often collaborate across different time zones and communication is primarily virtual, clear documentation and regular check-ins are essential. Another challenge is staying updated with evolving mapping technologies and tools, so ongoing learning and adaptability are key. To address these issues, team members typically use project management platforms, version control systems, and frequent video meetings to maintain alignment and quality standards.

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze healthcare data from EHRs, payer systems, and HL7 v2 feeds and map to FHIR R4 resources and profiles

  • Lead the analysis, design, and implementation of FHIR-based data mappings from HL7 v2, CCDA, X12, and proprietary formats

  • Create and maintain FHIR source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, and conformance documentation

  • Apply HL7 DaVinci Implementation Guides (PAS, CRD, DTR) to support prior authorization and coverage workflows

  • Perform terminology mapping using standard code systems (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm, ICD10)

  • Identify and resolve complex data quality, mapping, and performance issues across integrations

  • Validate FHIR payloads using conformance and testing tools and support integration and UAT testing

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship on FHIR standards, best practices, and implementation approaches

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics or a related field, or equivalent, and typically requires 7+ years of experience in healthcare data analysis, integration, and mapping

  • Hands-on expertise with HL7 FHIR R4, including resources, profiles, bundles, and extensions

  • Experience mapping from HL7 v2, CCDA, X12, and/or proprietary EMR formats to FHIR

  • Experience mapping from HL7 v2, CCDA, X12, and/or proprietary EMR formats to FHIR

  • Working knowledge of Clinical Quality Language (CQL), including use within DaVinci DTR workflows

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fastpaced, crossfunctional environment

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Experience supporting CMS interoperability and prior authorization initiatives (e.g., CMS0057)

  • Experience working with major EHR platforms such as Epic or Cerner

  • Familiarity with CDS Hooks in CRD/DTR workflows

  • Experience working with FHIR servers (e.g., Azure Health Data Services, HAPI FHIR, Epic/Cerner endpoints)
