Remote Manufacturing Accounting information

What is remote manufacturing accounting?

Remote manufacturing accounting refers to the practice of managing and overseeing the financial records, cost analysis, and budgeting processes for manufacturing companies from a remote location. Accountants in this role use cloud-based software and digital communication tools to track production costs, inventory, and financial performance without being physically present at the manufacturing site. This approach allows businesses to access skilled accounting professionals regardless of location and can improve efficiency and flexibility in financial management. Remote manufacturing accountants also ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and support decision-making for manufacturing operations.

Remote Manufacturing Accounting focuses on managing financial records specific to manufacturing operations, including inventory and production costs. Remote Cost Accountants specialize in analyzing and controlling manufacturing costs, often working closely with production teams. While both roles require accounting credentials and serve manufacturing companies, their core functions differ: one emphasizes financial reporting, the other cost control.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote manufacturing accounting roles, and how can they be overcome?

Remote manufacturing accounting professionals often face challenges such as coordinating with on-site teams, accessing real-time production data, and maintaining clear communication across departments. To overcome these obstacles, it's essential to leverage robust cloud-based ERP systems, schedule regular virtual meetings with plant managers and operations staff, and establish clear documentation protocols. Building strong relationships with cross-functional teams and proactively seeking clarification on production variances can also help ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Manufacturing Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Manufacturing Accountant, you need a solid background in accounting principles, cost accounting, and manufacturing processes, typically with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Proficiency with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks are essential. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are critical soft skills for collaborating virtually and interpreting complex financial data. These skills ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, and seamless coordination within remote manufacturing environments.

We specialize in enabling complex communication networks that are critical to the operations of the Department of Defense, Civilian Government, and commercial markets.

Position Overview

As a key member of the Finance team, the Accounting Manager will manage the Companyโ€™s day-to-day accounting operations and support compliance with US GAAP and government regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for executing an accurate and timely month-end close, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and supervising accounting staff in a deadline-driven environment.
This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with 5โ€“7 years of progressive experience, including a public accounting foundation preferred, who is ready to take ownership of core accounting processes and grow into broader finance leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day general accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and fixed assets.
  • Execute the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals, in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and supporting schedules for review by the Corporate Controller.
  • Perform and document internal controls, and prepare audit support schedules for external audits and government regulatory examinations.
  • Apply accounting policies and procedures consistently, and recommend improvements aligned with best practices and government contract requirements.
  • Support revenue recognition workpapers, unbilled receivable analysis, and project cost reporting in coordination with the Corporate Controller.
  • Supervise, train, and develop staff accountants to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and career growth.
  • Assist in coordinating requests from external auditors, tax advisors, and government agencies as directed.
  • Support ad hoc analysis and projects, including ERP system improvements and close process automation.
  • 5โ€“7 years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and familiarity with internal control frameworks (SOX or similar).
  • Experience in a government contracting or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proven success executing a month-end close process and preparing account reconciliations and financial schedules.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (Costpoint or similar) and advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and explain accounting matters clearly.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or Finance required; Masterโ€™s degree preferred.
  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
Attributes for Success
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Proactive problem solver who drives efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Team-oriented professional who leads by doing and develops others along the way.
  • Dependable self-starter who takes ownership of deadlines and deliverables.
