Remote Library Consultant information

What is a remote library consultant?

A Remote Library Consultant is a professional who provides expert advice and support to libraries and information centers from a remote location. They may assist with library management, digital resource integration, staff training, technology implementation, and strategic planning. Their services help libraries improve efficiency, enhance user experiences, and adapt to changing technologies and user needs. Remote Library Consultants often work with public, academic, or special libraries and use virtual communication tools to deliver their services.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote library consultants when supporting multiple libraries from a distance?

Remote Library Consultants often encounter challenges such as coordinating with diverse library teams across different time zones and adapting to varying organizational cultures. Communication can be more complex, requiring strong virtual collaboration skills and the ability to build trust without face-to-face interaction. Staying updated on each library's specific needs and technology infrastructure is crucial for providing effective guidance. However, many consultants find that these challenges can be managed with proactive communication and the use of collaborative digital tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote library consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Library Consultant, you need expertise in library science, information management, and often an MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) degree. Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), digital cataloging tools, and virtual collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help consultants effectively support and train library staff from a distance. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, tailored solutions that enhance library services and user experiences remotely.

    • Lead the development of price strategies, pricing models, and cost volumes for proposals ranging from $10K to over $8B.
    • Support cradle-to-grave pricing lifecycle, from requirements analysis to pricing submission and negotiation.
    • Analyze BOEs, labor mixes, escalation factors, and subcontractor pricing inputs for accuracy and compliance.
    • Develop Price-to-Win (PTW) scenarios and competitive assessments using intelligence gathered from previous proposals and market research.
    • Ensure alignment with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and TINA regulations.
    • Collaborate with capture managers, contracts, HR, technical leads, and partners to produce compliant and compelling cost proposals.
    • Create and maintain pricing templates, rate libraries, and internal workflows
  • Program Financial Analysis:
    • Support ongoing contracts by analyzing and reporting on program financial performance, including EACs, ETCs, burn rates and variance analysis.
    • Participate in monthly reviews (IPRs), forecasting, and financial status reporting.
    • Maintain data integrity between pricing baselines and program execution.
    • Partner with program managers to ensure financial goals align with operational performance.
    • Support transition from proposal to execution phases to ensure pricing assumptions translate effectively.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of pricing experience within the federal contracting space, with exposure to program control or financial analyst roles.

    • Ability to operate independently and under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Location:
    • This is a remote position within the United States requiring occasional travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Service Contract Act (SCA) compliance.
  • Background supporting program execution as part of a project control or finance team.
  • Experience with DCAA audits and cost estimation systems.
  • PMP, CPA, or similar credentials (not required).
