To thrive as a Remote Library Consultant, you need expertise in library science, information management, and often an MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) degree. Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), digital cataloging tools, and virtual collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills help consultants effectively support and train library staff from a distance. Staying updated on each library's specific needs and technology infrastructure is crucial for providing effective guidance. However, many consultants find that these challenges can be managed with proactive communication and the use of collaborative digital tools.

They may assist with library management, digital resource integration, staff training, technology implementation, and strategic planning. Their services help libraries improve efficiency, enhance user experiences, and adapt to changing technologies and user needs. Job description

Enterprise Knowledge (EK) is hiring a full-time Ontology Consultant to join our growing Semantic Design and Modeling Practice. This individual will lead ontology design and implementation in support of dynamic and fast-paced semantic solutions for a range of commercial and federal clients. In addition to delivering ontology models, this Ontologist will advise clients at varying levels of maturity on how to implement semantic best practices and expand and scale their ontology programs. The right candidate loves logic and rule-based systems (think logic puzzles, workflow diagrams, linguistics and grammar rules, mathematical proofs, set theory, etc.), and is skilled at communicating about ontology and its value to different audiences.
As a successful Ontology Consultant, you will be able to clearly articulate your design decisions and the rationale behind your choices to a variety of business stakeholders. You will be experienced in defining the steps needed to design, implement, and maintain large-scale ontologies for complex business solutions. You will also be comfortable working in ontology management systems, as you lead cross-functional meetings.
As an EKer, you will join a fast-growing company that is committed to equity and inclusion, have the opportunity to work in a collaborative workplace, take advantage of our unique benefits, and help build our innovative culture. The Ontology Consultant will be responsible for advising clients on ontology strategy, and leading teams in the definition and execution of ontology design, implementation, and management to meet client goals and needs.
  • Facilitate stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into ontology and semantic solutions
  • Develop and maintain ontologies, utilizing semantic and data management best practices
  • Assess and evaluate existing ontologies and make recommendations for improvement and alignment with industry standards
  • Provide training and guidance to clients and prepare documentation on the value, use, and maintenance of ontologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficacy and longevity of ontology solutions

  • Expertise in semantic standards such as RDF, OWL, SHACL, SPARQL
  • Hands-on experience with ontology tooling and management systems such as Protรฉgรฉ
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitative skills to work effectively on cross-functional teams and with stakeholders at all levels
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Science, Knowledge Management, Library Science, Management of Information Systems, Philosophy (Formal Ontology, Epistemology), Linguistics or other related field
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts, and experience working with ontology in the context of AI
  • Understanding of typical solution architectures for semantic solutions
Salary Information:
