Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Billing & Accounting Specialist to support the financial operations of a law firm. This position is responsible for managing monthly time and billing processes for firm partners, reviewing billing information for accuracy, and ensuring that financial data is processed accurately and confidentially.

The ideal candidate will have previous accounting or billing experience, strong computer skills, managing deadlines, reviewing detailed financial information communicating professionally with attorneys, administrative staff, and internal teams, and the ability to quickly learn new software and systems. This is a highly confidential position requiring discretion and professionalism

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly time and billing process for firm partners.
  • Review attorney and partner time entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare, review, and process monthly billing information in accordance with firm procedures.
  • Monitor billable time, expenses, and matter-related costs to ensure accurate billing.
  • Review billing data and identify missing information, or unusual entries.
  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies, adjustments, and other billing-related issues.
  • Communicate with attorneys, legal assistants, and internal departments regarding billing questions and required corrections.
  • Maintain accurate billing records, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Learn and effectively use the firm's billing, accounting, and timekeeping systems.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling partner compensation, financial information, billing records, and other sensitive information.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties related to billing and financial operations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in billing, accounting, or related financial operations.
  • Familiarity with legal billing practices, invoice review, and timekeeping processes is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with billing software, spreadsheet tools, and standard office applications.
  • Experience with electronic billing systems and client billing portals.
  • Understanding of legal matter management and LEDES billing formats.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and resolve issues efficiently.

Education
