Overview
Comprehensive legal bill review analyzing invoices submitted under AFA and hourly arrangements. Review expense documentation and line entries to ensure compliance with outside counsel billing guidelines and billing task and expense codes.
Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze legal invoices submitted by outside counsel to ensure accuracy, compliance with billing guidelines, and reasonableness of charges.
  • Monitor adherence to outside counsel billing guidelines, including time entry descriptions, billing rates, staffing models, and expense charges.
  • Identify billing discrepancies, unauthorized charges, excessive time entries, and non-compliant billing practices; communicate findings with internal stakeholders and law firms.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and procurement teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control of legal services.
  • Provide feedback and training to law firms on billing expectations and compliance issues.
  • Maintain and update billing guidelines and support their enforcement through contract terms and engagement letters
  • Leverage e-billing platforms (e.g., TyMetrix, CounselLink, Serengeti, Legal Tracker) to facilitate invoice workflow, reporting, and analysis.
  • Track and report key metrics related to legal spend, savings opportunities, and billing compliance.
  • Assist in the development of internal policies and procedures to streamline the legal bill review process and improve cost efficiency.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; legal, finance, or business-related field preferred. JD or paralegal certification a plus.
  • 5-10 years of experience in legal auditing or legal bill review, legal operations, law firm billing, or legal spend management.
