Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to support our multi-disciplinary design team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to lead in traditional steam, thermal power generation and advanced nuclear technologies. This includes being a part of the first-of-a-kind program with AECOM partners advancing the innovative stellarator technology to the world.

For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

This position requires a strong understanding of civil and structural engineering design, fabrication and construction processes. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage the technical team and lead projects as discipline Structural lead in responsible charge.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Support Nuclear Technical Lead and Department Manager with strategic resourcing initiatives
  • Supervise and lead a team of structural engineers through their individual and team technical development for greater utility to the organization and overall career satisfaction
  • Serve as Structural Lead/Engineering of Record on all size projects maintaining responsibility for deliverable development and contributing to the design work
  • Lead improvements in project efficiencies by creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards/templates and researching and recommending software packages/plug-ins
  • Develop task and deliverable list with associated hours estimate and schedule to support business development activities
  • Multi-discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, site layouts, facility retrofits, technical specifications, contractor scopes of work, etc.
  • Provides technical expertise for risk assessments, due diligence and other studies presenting complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Directing, originating and contributing to the development of structural engineering calculations, specifications and drawings
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Participating in and presenting engineering work at internal and client meetings including those requiring occasional travel

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  •  Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience with Power Generation and/or Heavy Industrial Facilities
  • 5+ years of experience as project technical Structural lead/electrical engineer of record
  • Experience in engineering and design of power generation facilities (fossil, thermal, nuclear)
  • Complex modeling experience
  • Field construction and commissioning experience
  • Successful experience working in remote and multi-discipline teams
  • Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards (IBC, AISC, ACI, IEBC, ASCE, etc.).
  • Structural analysis and modeling software proficiency (e.g. StaadPro)
  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)
  • Demonstrated experience in participating in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects
