A Remote Land Survey Rodman is a field crew member who assists land surveyors by operating and positioning surveying equipment, such as rods and prisms, often in outdoor environments. The 'remote' aspect typically means the job involves working in various locations, sometimes using remote communication tools or digital data collection methods. Rodmen help mark measurements, gather data, and support the survey team to ensure accurate land mapping and boundary identification. This position is crucial for construction, engineering, and land development projects. Attention to detail, physical endurance, and basic knowledge of surveying tools are important for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote land survey rodman?

To thrive as a Remote Land Survey Rodman, you need a basic understanding of land surveying principles, physical stamina, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with GPS equipment, total stations, data collectors, and sometimes CAD software is commonly required. Attention to detail, strong teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for accurate fieldwork and collaboration. These skills ensure precise data collection, safety, and efficient field operations, which are essential for successful surveying projects.

What are some typical challenges faced by a remote land survey rodman, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Land Survey Rodmen often face challenges such as working in isolated or rugged terrain, adapting to variable weather conditions, and ensuring precise communication with the survey crew leader from a distance. Job description

Senior Land Surveyor - Florida (Fort Myers)
NexGen Land Solutions | Full-Time | Remote-First | M-F 8AM-5PM
NexGen Land Solutions is a fast-growing, technology-forward land surveying firm serving Florida's most active real estate and development markets. We're looking for a licensed Florida Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to take ownership of survey quality, mentor our growing team, and serve as the technical backbone behind our deliverables. This is a senior-level position - not a drafting role. You'll be the signature on the work.
What You'll Do
  • Stamp, seal, and take professional responsibility for boundary, mortgage, topographic, and construction surveys
  • QA and review all survey deliverables produced by field crews and drafters before they go to clients
  • Communicate directly with title agents, real estate attorneys, engineers, and developers in the Fort Myers market
  • Ensure all work complies with Florida Statutes Chapter 472 and applicable administrative codes
  • Mentor Surveyors in Training (SITs) and junior drafters, reviewing their work and supporting their path to licensure
  • Identify and flag project scope issues, legal description discrepancies, or field data problems before they become client problems
Who You Are
  • Active Florida Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license - required
  • Solid command of Florida survey law and practical experience across boundary, mortgage, and topo work
  • Comfortable reviewing CAD-drafted documents and field notes for accuracy and completeness
  • Client-facing confidence - you can explain a legal description discrepancy to an attorney without losing them
  • Detail-obsessed but efficient - you know when something needs to go back to the drafter and when it's ready to seal
Why NexGen
We're not a legacy firm stuck in legacy workflows. NexGen runs lean, invests in technology, and builds systems that let our team do more without burning out. You'll work remote-first with real scheduling flexibility, supported by a team that takes quality seriously. If you're a PLS who's tired of being buried in production with no bandwidth to actually lead - this is the role for you.
Our Values (NEXGEN LogiX)
Nurture Consistency, Embody Integrity, eXcel through Accountability, Grow through Innovation, Engage with Purpose, Navigate with Clarity, Lead with Vision, Own Your Impact, Give Back, eXpand Your Horizons. These aren't wall decorations - they guide how we work, who we hire, and how we treat each other.
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with licensure and experience.
Benefits: Medical, dental, vision and voluntary benefits offered. Retirement plan offered. PTO & Holidays.
Location: Fort Myers, FL - remote-first; Florida residents preferred.
