Job description

DNV - Maritime Region Americas is seeking a Junior Surveyor to join our Gulf of Mexico operations in New Orleans, LA.  As a Junior Surveyor for the Gulf you will be member of a highly qualified team of surveyors and auditors serving the more traditional shipping segments calling ports along the Gulf Coast for surveys/audits on ships in operation, ships under construction. 

What You'll Do

  • Survey ocean-going ships that call at ports of call and at sea, including drydock and alteration surveys. 
  • Survey and certification of Ships in Operation for compliance with international standards, DNV Classification Rules, and Statutory requirements.  
  • Ensure that the work or duties performed are in accordance with the Rules, Regulations, Instructions, Guidelines and quality requirements of the organization and the instructions of the line management. 
  • Review and respond to technical queries and design submittals regarding compliance.
  • Seek for internal support as necessary through experienced colleagues, line manager, Technical Support or equivalent. 
  • At all times maintain the confidentiality of Clients' business intellectual property, processes, designs, developments, and documentation. 
  • Communicate to line management at the earliest appropriate opportunity when in receipt of information that is important to the reputation or integrity of the organization.   
  • Exhibit customer-oriented focus by promoting DNV onboard or on-site, and by acting as a technical resource for customer questions.

What is Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering (Degree in marine related field such as Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred) and/or equivalent 
  • Behavioral competencies: Team player, but able to work independently on surveys
  • Travel requirement (% of the year) 25% per calendar year Domestic/International 
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and travel on public conveyances when required
  • Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job on-board various marine vessels, structures, and offshore platforms include but are not limited to. The climbing of pilot ladders at various heights, going in and out of tanks, performing work in confined spaces, flying in a helicopter, pilot and/or boat transfers, voyage surveys, and working in harsh climates on a regular basis
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct a pre-employment background check and drug screening

What is Preferred

  • Maritime Industry experience (especially exposure to classification/statutory surveys or seagoing experience) is a plus. Required training will be provided
