Job description

Looking for a unique travel opportunity in one of the most scenic areas of the country? This Staff Pharmacist role in Sitka offers a 13 week assignment in a remote Alaska community surrounded by mountains, ocean, and incredible outdoor experiences.

Position Details

  • Start Date: September
  • Assignment: 13+ weeks
  • Schedule: 4x10-hour shifts, 7:30 AM–6:30 PM
  • Coverage: Weekends, holidays, and call
  • Travel support: Housing and transportation assistance provided
  • Travel stipends: Lodging, meals, and incidentals available

Responsibilities

  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, contraindications, interactions, allergies, adverse reactions, and lab abnormalities
  • Provide clinical consultation and collaborate with prescribers before dispensing
  • Enter and verify prescription orders accurately and efficiently
  • Counsel patients and ensure understanding of medication therapy
  • Perform chart reviews, medication therapy management, and refill assessments
  • Provide drug information, therapeutic recommendations, and staff education
  • Direct and verify pharmacy technician activities
  • Participate in quality control and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support health promotion and disease prevention activities
  • Work in pharmacy-run clinics as needed

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Alaska Pharmacist License required
  • PharmD degree and registered pharmacist licensure
  • Hospital or ambulatory clinic pharmacy experience
  • BLS certification for Healthcare Providers required
  • ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency experience preferred 
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote healthcare setting
  • Willing to work weekends, holidays, and call coverage
  • Must be able to complete fingerprinting immediately upon acceptance
  • Must understand and be comfortable with the remote island location and travel logistics

Sitka is accessible only by air or sea, making this a truly unique travel assignment for a pharmacist looking for something outside the typical hospital setting.
