Job description

Thank you for considering Progyny!
This role leads execution of the organization's health plan strategy through cross-functional program leadership, operational expertise, and enterprise implementation. As a key connector across the organization, the Director partners with executive and functional leaders across Product, Operations, Compliance, Clinical Services, Analytics, Technology, Finance, and other business functions to drive strategic initiatives, align stakeholders, manage risk, and ensure organizational readiness.
The Director supports health plan growth through new partnerships, delegated benefit administration arrangements, product launches, and operational transformation initiatives. Through governance, cross-functional coordination, and operational leadership, the Director ensures new capabilities are successfully launched, integrated into ongoing operations, and positioned for long-term success.
This is a player-coach role that combines hands-on leadership of complex initiatives with executive partnership. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, balances competing stakeholder priorities, and translates strategic direction into measurable operational outcomes while driving day-to-day execution.
What you'll do...
  • Drive execution of key health plan strategic priorities and enterprise initiatives.
  • Translate strategic objectives into detailed implementation plans, workstreams, milestones, and measurable deliverables.
  • Assess competing priorities and recommend sequencing, resource allocation, and implementation approaches that maximize business impact.
  • Establish governance structures and operating cadences that drive accountability, decision-making, and visibility across enterprise initiatives.
  • Build alignment across diverse stakeholders by balancing member, provider, client, regulatory, operational, financial, and organizational priorities to support effective decision-making and successful execution.
  • Develop and present executive-ready communications, governance materials, and strategic recommendations that enable timely, informed decision-making.
  • Influence organizational priorities and gain alignment across executive stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Coach and empower team members to support the evolving needs of the health plan organization.
  • Lead operational planning and enterprise readiness efforts supporting health plan growth and strategic partnerships.
  • Serve as the enterprise integrator across business functions, proactively identifying gaps, surfacing risks, and driving alignment to ensure strategic initiatives are successfully operationalized.
  • Represent Health Plan Strategy & Operations with senior leadership and external health plan partners during strategic implementations.
  • Direct cross-functional operationalization of new health plan partnerships, delegated benefit administration arrangements, product launches, and operational enhancements.
  • Partner with functional leaders to define operational readiness requirements, monitor implementation progress, and resolve execution gaps.
  • Ensure operational, regulatory, financial, reporting, and experience considerations are incorporated throughout implementation.
  • Lead organizational change management efforts to support successful adoption of new processes, capabilities, and operating models.
  • Drive successful delivery of strategic initiatives that improve organizational readiness, operational performance, partner satisfaction, and business outcomes.

About you...
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, related field, or relevant experience; master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience within a health plan organization, including experience in strategy, operations, implementation, program management, business transformation, or related functions.
  • 5+ years leading enterprise-scale strategic initiatives with executive visibility and cross-functional accountability.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, enterprise-wide initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders across highly matrixed organizations.
  • Strong understanding of health plan operations and the interdependencies between operational, compliance, service, product, and technology functions.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional ability to connect disparate teams, synthesize competing priorities, and drive enterprise alignment in complex, ambiguous environments.
