What is remote intelligent systems engineering?

Remote Intelligent Systems Engineering refers to the design, development, and maintenance of intelligent systems—such as AI-driven automation, robotics, or smart devices—while working from a remote location. Professionals in this field use advanced technologies to create systems that can perceive, learn, and make decisions, often collaborating with team members and clients virtually. This role typically requires expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, and remote collaboration tools. The flexibility of remote work allows engineers to contribute to complex projects from anywhere, making it a popular choice in today's global tech industry.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote intelligent systems engineering, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Remote Intelligent Systems Engineering often encounter challenges such as coordinating with distributed teams across different time zones, ensuring secure and reliable remote system operations, and maintaining effective communication during troubleshooting or system updates. To address these issues, engineers typically rely on robust collaboration tools, establish clear communication protocols, and schedule regular virtual meetings. Additionally, staying updated on best practices for cybersecurity and remote monitoring helps ensure smooth operation and rapid response to potential issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote intelligent systems engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Intelligent Systems Engineer, you need a strong background in systems engineering, programming (such as Python, C++, or Java), and AI/machine learning principles, often supported by a relevant degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, TensorFlow, ROS (Robot Operating System), and cloud-based platforms is typically required, along with certifications in AI or systems engineering. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for remote collaboration and project success. These qualifications and skills are crucial for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex intelligent systems while effectively collaborating with distributed teams.

What is the difference between Remote Intelligent Systems Engineering vs Remote Robotics Engineering?

AspectRemote Intelligent Systems EngineeringRemote Robotics Engineering
Required CredentialsBachelor's/Master's in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; knowledge of AI, machine learning, and systems integrationBachelor's/Master's in Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering; knowledge of control systems, sensors, and automation
Work EnvironmentPrimarily software-focused, designing and developing intelligent systems remotelyCombination of software and hardware tasks, often involving remote collaboration on robotic systems
Industry UsageUsed across AI, automation, and software development companiesCommon in manufacturing, automation, and research institutions

Remote Intelligent Systems Engineering focuses on designing and developing software-driven intelligent systems, while Remote Robotics Engineering emphasizes both hardware and software aspects of robotic systems. Both roles require technical expertise and are prevalent in tech and industrial sectors, but they differ mainly in their focus on software versus hardware components.

How much do remote intelligent systems engineers make?

Remote intelligent systems engineers typically earn between $80,000 and $130,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and industry. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in AI, machine learning, or robotics can command higher salaries, especially with proficiency in programming languages like Python and tools such as TensorFlow or ROS.

our solutions and innovations, visit our website here.
Role Purpose
As Lead Systems Engineer, you'll hold the highest level of technical ownership on our Systems Engineering track joining a dispersed, cross-disciplinary team of hardware, software, and electrical engineers. You'll serve as the primary technical authority across the full project lifecycle, from bid phase through delivery and operational handoff, on high-visibility tolling and roadside infrastructure programs continuing to expand and evolve spanning networking, hardware, and data center work as the toll road doubles in capacity.
This is a role for someone who wants to set the technical direction for a project, model strong engineering practices, and be the face to the client - owning requirements end-to-end, and stepping in to drive the technical path forward whenever the team hits a roadblock.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Own the technical solution end-to-end - from bid-phase sales support, proposal review, and requirement gap analysis, through design decisions on any hardware or software changes, to delivery and operational handoff.
  • Design and maintain the full solution architecture (systems, interfaces, protocols, databases, networking, and applications), keeping end-to-end awareness of where bottlenecks exist and where the design can be optimized.
  • Own cost estimation for Systems Engineering labor and Project Material/BOM, including final review and release.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients - translating customer needs into buildable solutions, leading cross-functional teams, and owning requirements end-to-end.
  • Build out the physical design layer - wiring diagrams, civil drawing interpretation, and cable/conduit layouts - partnering with highway designers to fit our technology into the physical infrastructure.
  • Set the technical direction and standard for how the team delivers - stepping in to unblock the team and propose solutions when work stalls and pushing back constructively when needed.

What Makes You a Great Fit
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional experience, ideally with a strong IT and networking focus (e.g., an IT Architect background).
  • 5+ years implementing technical solutions, with a practical background in systems engineering (system architectures, interfaces and protocols, databases, frameworks).
  • 4+ years of experience and expertise across two or more of: electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, software, database, networking, or security engineering.
  • CCNA, CCNP, or another networking certification (our networking environment runs on Cisco).
  • Experience and knowledge of requirements engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead technical conversations with customers, make sound technical decisions, and guide successful cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical presentations while engaging with and managing client relationships.
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset, balanced with strong team collaboration.

Bonus Qualifications
  • Prior leadership.
  • Background in tolling or traffic systems.
  • Project management skills, with knowledge of business economics.
  • Experience estimating time and effort for system functionalities.
  • Familiarity with relevant international standards.

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to solve complex problems that improve the daily lives of people around the world.
  • Career growth, stability, and the opportunity to develop within a global organization.
  • A full benefits package, including unlimited paid time off, 11 paid holidays, 401(k), a no-cost medical insurance option for employees and eligible dependents, and an FSA option.
