Patent Associate (Mid-Level) โ€“ Intellectual Property (Software & Electronics) | Boston (Hybrid/Remote)

Direct Counsel represents a well-regarded law firm seeking a mid-level Patent Associate (2โ€“5 years) to join its Intellectual Property practice, supporting a dynamic Boston-based team. This role offers flexibility with hybrid or remote options aligned to the Boston office.

About the Role

This position focuses on patent prosecution and portfolio strategy across software and electronics technologies, working with innovative clients across a range of industries. Youโ€™ll play a key role in developing and protecting cutting-edge technologies while collaborating with a nationally recognized IP team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in software, electronics, and related technologies
  • Advise clients on patent strategy, portfolio development, and IP protection
  • Conduct patentability analyses and respond to office actions
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients on complex IP matters across industries
  • Support broader IP initiatives, including counseling and potential litigation support
Qualifications
  • 2โ€“5 years of patent prosecution experience
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree (or higher) in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Strong experience with U.S. and foreign patent prosecution
  • Excellent academic credentials and superior written/oral communication skills
  • Strategic mindset with strong organizational and client service skills
  • Prior law firm experience required; industry experience and patent litigation exposure are a plus
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $230,000 โ€“ $340,000 (commensurate with experience and location)
  • Bonus: Discretionary performance-based bonus eligibility
