Job description

LHH is seeking an Assistant Controller for a fully remote contract opportunity. The ideal candidate will bring ten plus years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements. A CPA is highly preferred. This individual will serve as a key business partner to leadership while helping drive the organization's financial performance and accounting accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in leading the day-to-day accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Manage the general ledger, fixed assets, and accounting records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning initiatives.
  • Monitor cash flow, cash management activities, and forecasting to support business operations.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Oversee AP, AR, billing, and general accounting functions while providing guidance and mentorship to accounting staff.
  • Strengthen internal controls and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Support annual audits, tax filings, and other compliance-related reporting requirements.
  • Develop and report on key financial metrics and performance indicators for executive leadership.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operational leaders to support strategic decision-making and business objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA designation highly preferred.
  • Ten plus years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
  • Strong background in financial reporting, general ledger management, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close.
  • Experience with ERP or automated financial management systems; Epicor experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively.
