Job description

Summary
Reclamation seeks a Communication & Instrumentation Mechanic to support the Flatiron-Pole Hill Section of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Help generate clean, renewable hydropower, deliver water resources, and maintain critical systems that support power production, water delivery, recreation, and local communities.

Duties
Help
Performs regular preventative maintenance, diagnoses equipment or system troubles, and makes repairs and/or adjustments as necessary to return equipment or systems to normal operation.
Conducts research, obtains pricing, and orders suitable replacement parts for defective equipment.
Interprets electrical drawings and electronic circuit diagrams to install, maintain, and fabricate various types of electronic and related equipment.
Performs field tests and adjustment work on meters, relays, and other electrical or electronic equipment or systems without endangering system operations.
Observes safe clearance procedures and all other applicable safety regulations.
Physical Demands: Routinely lifts, carries and moves up to 50 pounds. May be required to lift and move heavier items with the assistance of others and/or with lifting devices. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and sitting for long periods may be required. Routinely required to push, pull, bend, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, work overhead and work at heights. Climbs scaffolding and ladders at heights of 200 feet. May use power and hand tools to perform work.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and in the field during mixed weather seasons and subject to varying terrain requiring increased physical demands to perform duties. May work in close, restricted quarters causing the employee to work in cramped and awkward positions. Employee works on or around moving equipment and energized sources. Most work is performed in remote locations. The tools, equipment and heavy objects occasionally present chances of serious injury due to the working environment and nature of the tasks. May work in hazardous areas with hazardous materials such as: heights, confined spaces, on or around electrically energized equipment, high noise levels, and toxic chemicals (Asbestos, lead, epoxies, etc). Uses protective clothing and equipment including respirators, supplied breathing air apparatuses, fall protection harnesses, etc..
Works on or around moving equipment or other obstacles such as high voltage lines, trees and walls, etc. Some work is at extreme heights and sometimes over water. Works with and properly disposes of hazardous materials used in the performance of assigned tasks. Employee works in the near vicinity of medium voltage electrical equipment.
Will be required to operate equipment and other vehicles in the performance of his/her duties and is completely responsible for their safe operation. Operates such equipment in compliance with applicable Bureau, Federal, State, County and Municipal laws and regulations. Responsible for maintaining a valid State Drivers License and notifying supervisor of expiration dates or revocation of licenses or certifications or changes in physical conditions that would affect operational competency. Responsible for reporting all accidents in accordance with regulations.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.   • your performance and conduct;

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  3. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices
  4. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  5. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
