Remote Inpatient Medical Coder Jobs in Tulsa, OK

Position Summary:

CREOKS Health Services is seeking a Board-Certified (or Board-Eligible) Psychiatrist to join our medical team in a fully virtual, salaried role serving multiple outpatient clinics across Oklahoma. The psychiatrist provides telepsychiatry evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for adolescent and adult patients, supported on-site by behavioral health clinicians, case managers, registered nurses, and medical assistants who facilitate visits, gather collateral information, perform vitals, and coordinate care. The position includes occasional daytime virtual call coverage on our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) to backfill colleagues on PTO, with optional, additional-compensation overnight and weekend call available.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide telepsychiatry diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and follow-up care for assigned adolescent and adult patients across CREOKS outpatient sites.
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans in coordination with the multidisciplinary team, including therapists, case managers, primary care providers, and families.
• Perform appropriate diagnosis and pharmacologic treatment in accordance with current APA practice guidelines, FDA labeling, and accepted standards of care for adult and adolescent psychiatry.
• Order, interpret, and act upon relevant laboratory studies and screening tools (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, AUDIT-C, C-SSRS), and integrate outside records into the plan of care.
• Manage controlled substances responsibly in compliance with DEA, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, and the Oklahoma Prescription Monitoring Program (OSCIS); maintain a current, unrestricted DEA registration.
• Provide consultation and clinical guidance to nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, therapists, and other clinic staff regarding medical and psychiatric questions.
• Document clinical encounters in the electronic health record in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner, meeting CREOKS, ODMHSAS, CCBHC, and payer documentation standards.
• Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and care coordination as needed for assigned patients.

Medical Leadership & Supervision

• Provide medical direction and clinical oversight for assigned clinics, including collaboration with on-site leadership on workflow, safety, and quality.
• Serve as a collaborating/supervising physician for psychiatric nurse practitioners and other advanced practice providers as assigned, consistent with Oklahoma scope-of-practice requirements and the CREOKS collaborative practice agreement.
• Participate in peer review, quality improvement, and utilization review activities as requested by the Chief Medical Officer.
• Support credentialing, privileging, and clinical policy development relevant to psychiatric services.
• Maintain current state licenses and certifications as required by appropriate state law and rules.

Crisis & Call Coverage

• Provide occasional daytime virtual call coverage on the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) to cover for providers on PTO; coverage frequency is intermittent and scheduled in advance whenever possible.
• Optional overnight and weekend call coverage is available with additional compensation, including hourly call pay and per-encounter rounding pay (see Compensation section).
• Respond to urgent clinical questions from nursing and behavioral health staff during scheduled clinical hours.
• Coordinate with hospital-based providers, emergency departments, and inpatient psychiatric facilities for patients requiring a higher level of care.

Compliance & Professional Standards

• Maintain current, unrestricted Oklahoma medical licensure (MD or DO); board certification or active board eligibility in Psychiatry strongly preferred.
• Maintain DEA registration in good standing.
• Maintain enrollment as a SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid) provider and other payer credentials as required.
• Notify Human Resources of any license, certification, DEA, or payer enrollment suspension, restriction, or termination within 24 hours.
• Conduct all professional affairs to the highest ethical, professional, and personal standards consistent with CREOKS values, ODMHSAS expectations, and the AMA/APA codes of ethics.
• Complete all required CREOKS compliance, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and annual training requirements.
• All required trainings such as AHS, CCBHC, SA etc
• Other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer or designee.

Qualifications Required:

Required

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in General Psychiatry.
• Active, unrestricted Oklahoma medical license (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).
• Active DEA registration in good standing.
• Eligibility to enroll as a SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid) provider.
• Current BLS certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
• Comfort with telepsychiatry platforms and electronic health records.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative practice skills.

Preferred

• Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Psychiatry.
• Experience in a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), community mental health, or FQHC setting.
• Experience in crisis stabilization, inpatient psychiatry, or emergency psychiatric services.
• Familiarity with Oklahoma ODMHSAS regulations and CCBHC service expectations.
• Experience supervising or collaborating with psychiatric nurse practitioners and integrated behavioral health teams.
• Experience with co-occurring substance use disorders, including buprenorphine prescribing.
