Highlights:
Remote Option
Summary: The Inpatient Coding Specialist shall be responsible for the assignment of diagnoses and procedure codes for the billing process and the statistical database. This individual is also responsible to routinely tracking the incomplete Medicare records awaiting DRG prompter responses. The Coder is responsible for daily maintenance of the unbilled accounts report. Additionally, this individual will work in conjunction with Corporate Compliance department to assure all coding is based on complete and accurate documentation that is reflective of the patient's medical condition and severity of illness. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.
Education / Experience:High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of American Health Information Management approved RHIT or RHIA course and/or completion of college level courses in anatomy and physiology and related science courses, preferred. Minimum 2 years coding experience in an acute care setting preferred.
License / Certification: CCS, CIC required, or CPC with prior inpatient coding experience required. If RHIA/RHIT certification, a CCS or CIC must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Skilled in the use of computers.
• Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
• Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Position requires sitting for 90% of the workday and mobility 10% of the workday.
There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels.
Much exposure to computer work.
Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation.
