Job description

Join Our Team as an Attorney at Axiom

We are seeking an experienced Trade Compliance Attorney with a strong background supporting technology, software, cloud, or SaaS companies. This role will focus on advising clients on U.S. and international import/export compliance, export controls, product and technology classification, licensing, and cross-border trade requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise on U.S. and international import and export compliance, including requirements under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and other applicable trade regulations.
  • Conduct and advise on export classification, including Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) determinations for software, technology, hardware, and related products.
  • Support import and customs classification, including Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and related import requirements.
  • Assess export licensing requirements, license exceptions, end-user/end-use restrictions, and country-specific controls.
  • Provide legal guidance on the cross-border transfer of software, source code, technical data, cloud services, and technology.
  • Draft, review, and update trade compliance policies, procedures, contractual provisions, and other compliance documentation.
  • Partner with legal, product, engineering, compliance, supply chain, and business teams to operationalize trade requirements within a technology or SaaS environment.
  • Identify trade compliance risks and provide practical guidance to support global business operations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting imports, exports, technology transfers, and global trade compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent and licensed to practice law in an applicable jurisdiction.
  • Demonstrated legal experience advising technology, software, cloud, or SaaS companies on international trade compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with both import and export matters.
  • Strong experience with product, software, and/or technology classification, including ECCN and HTS classification.
  • Strong working knowledge of the EAR, export licensing requirements, and applicable U.S. import/export regulations.
  • Experience advising on cross-border movement or transfer of technology, software, hardware, technical data, or related products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
Preferred Skills:
  • In-house or secondment experience supporting a technology, SaaS, software, cloud, semiconductor, or other technology-driven company.
  • Experience developing or enhancing global trade compliance programs, policies, and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with OFAC sanctions, restricted-party screening, deemed exports, encryption controls, and technology transfers.
  • Experience partnering directly with product, engineering, supply chain, procurement, or global operations teams.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations with complex global operations.
Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year.ย Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.ย  Employees may be eligible for additional benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance; paid holidays and PTO; flexible work arrangements; and professional development opportunities and tools.
