Job Description:

As the AT&T Systems Engineering Director, you will lead a team of high-performing Sales Engineers responsible for supporting one of HPE Networking's most strategic customers. This leadership role is accountable for driving technical sales strategy, developing world-class presales talent, and partnering closely with account leadership to accelerate business growth and strengthen executive-level customer relationships.

The successful candidate will combine deep networking and telecommunications expertise with exceptional leadership, business acumen, and customer engagement skills. You will serve as the senior technical leader, ensuring our systems engineering team delivers differentiated customer outcomes through innovative networking, security, AI-driven networking, cloud, and infrastructure solutions.

Working closely with Sales Leadership, Product Management, Services, Channel Partners, and Executive Stakeholders, you will develop and execute technical account strategies, support large and complex opportunities, and foster a high-performance culture that enables growth and customer success.
This role requires the ability to effectively engage customer executives, influence strategic technology decisions, and lead a geographically distributed team through complex sales cycles and transformational initiatives.

Location: Candidates should reside within reasonable proximity to key AT&T locations, within the Continental US, with the ability to travel to customer and HPE locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead a talented Systems Engineering organization with deep expertise across networking domains.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous technical growth.

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top technical talent while developing succession plans and career growth opportunities.

Customer & Business Leadership

  • Serve as the senior technical leader and trusted advisor for AT&T.

  • Develop executive-level relationships with customer technology and business stakeholders.

  • Partner with Account Executives and Sales Leadership to create and execute account strategies that drive revenue growth and market share expansion.

  • Provide strategic guidance on networking, security, cloud, AI, automation, and infrastructure initiatives.

  • Support executive briefings, customer workshops, and strategic planning sessions.

Presales & Technical Strategy

  • Lead technical sales engagements for complex, multi-domain networking and infrastructure opportunities.

  • Guide solution architecture, technical validation, demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, and competitive positioning efforts.

  • Ensure technical resources are aligned to priority opportunities and customer objectives.

  • Drive solution-selling methodologies that connect technical capabilities to measurable business outcomes.

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to address customer requirements and influence product direction.

Operational Excellence

  • Manage technical opportunity pipelines, forecasting activities, and resource planning.

  • Improve SE productivity, coverage, and technical program consistency across the Area.

  • Align resources to highvalue opportunities and ensure predictable, highquality execution.

  • Support HPE's Operate Efficiently goals by simplifying processes and scaling best practices.

  • Drive consistency and operational rigor across the systems engineering organization.

  • Monitor competitive activity and market trends within the telecommunications industry.

  • Partner with channel organizations and strategic partners to expand market opportunities and customer engagement.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in networking, telecommunications, infrastructure, or cloud technologies.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing Systems Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or Presales organizations.

  • Demonstrated success supporting large telecommunications providers, preferably AT&T or comparable Tier 1 service providers.

  • Experience leading geographically distributed technical teams.

  • Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and participate in strategic customer engagements.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise networking, telecom architectures, cloud networking, security, automation, and AI-driven infrastructure solutions.

  • Proven track record of supporting large-scale, complex sales opportunities and driving business results.

  • University or Bachelor's degree, advanced university or Master's degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in Juniper networking technologies and carrier-class networking environments.

  • Experience with service provider architectures, WAN, routing, switching, SD-WAN, security, and network automation.

  • Deep expertise in service provider networking (MPLS, Segment Routing, BGP, IS-IS, etc.), data center networking (EVPN/VXLAN, leafspine), and campus & branch networking.

  • Knowledge of AI-powered networking and cloud-native network operations.

  • Experience working within matrixed global organizations.
