Job description

Location: Hattie Mae White Department: Enterprise Systems Center of Excellence Area:Northwest Contract Months:12 Salary Range: $92,540.00 - $152,691.00 Academic Year: 25-26 JOB SUMMARY The Senior Engineer - Center of Excellence provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise for Houston ISD's enterprise ERP systems. This role supports the functional teams in Finance, HR, Payroll, Procurement, and Warehousing by configuring, testing, and troubleshooting core modules in SAP (current) and Oracle Fusion Cloud (future). The Senior Engineer plays a critical role in system stability, user support, documentation, and post-go-live improvements as the district transitions platforms

The position also supports integration testing, change management, and the ongoing optimization of ERP solutions. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first 1. Lead technical support and configuration for ERP modules such as HR, Payroll, Finance, and Procurement.

2. Serve as a subject matter expert on either SAP ECC or Oracle Fusion Cloud system behavior and workflows. 3.

Collaborate with analysts and business users to translate operational needs into functional solutions. 4. Develop and execute test plans, including regression, integration, and user acceptance testing.

5 Troubleshoot complex technical issues and coordinate vendor escalations when needed. 6. Document changes, create training/reference materials, and support end-user enablement.

7. Participate in ERP system upgrades, enhancements, and releases with an eye on system integrity. 8.

Support data conversion, validation, and mapping activities during cloud transition. 9. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvement and standardization efforts.

10. Design and build new applications, integrations, or workflows that address business and instructional needs. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 11.

Develop secure, modular, and scalable applications using low-code/no-code platforms or modern web development stacks. 12. Support integration with core systems such as Oracle Fusion, Microsoft Power Platform, and SIS/LMS tools.

13. Participate in project planning, requirements analysis, prototyping, and solution reviews. 14.

Maintain clean documentation, technical diagrams, and release notes for all solutions delivered. 15. Work with users to test, validate, and train on new features or tools.

16. Contribute to shared development libraries, design patterns, and solution templates. 17.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or business technology required. Applicants who do not meet these education qualifications may be considered if they have a unique combination of education and work experiences that indicate potential for success in this role.

WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting ERP systems, including at least one full-cycle implementation or migration. Experience with both SAP and Oracle Fusion preferred. SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Expertise in at least one ERP functional area (e.g., Payroll, Procurement, Finance, HR) Experience in ERP configuration and system troubleshooting Strong understanding of business process design and system testing methodologies Excellent written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of change management and release documentation processes Familiarity with tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, and Microsoft Power BI is a plus LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES May mentor junior engineers and lead small projects or task groups

Operates with autonomy on technical problem-solving and module support. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Solves moderately complex issues involving ERP logic, business processes, and integration with upstream/downstream systems. Exercises judgment in prioritizing tickets and recommending changes.

BUDGET AUTHORITY No direct budget authority, but provides input on tool selection, vendor performance, and module licensing needs. PROBLEM SOLVING Frequently resolves system failures, misconfigurations, and data inconsistencies. Proposes enhancements to improve usability and system performance.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS Directly affects payroll accuracy, procurement workflows, HR compliance, and finance operations. Mistakes can delay districtwide functions or introduce audit risks. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Works closely with business analysts, end users, IT teams, and vendors.

Provides ERP technical guidance across departments. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Serves as a key technical point of contact for ERP users. Build trust by delivering timely, thorough solutions and system guidance.
