JOB SUMMARY
The Remote MRI technologist provides MRI scanning and scanning assistance remotely to technologists at multiple designated UTSW sites. Works under minimal supervision with the physicians to perform routine to complex MRI imaging exams, exam protocols, accreditation, and operations. Ensures services are performed in a safe environment, with assistance from on-site MRI technologists in accordance with local, state, and federal law as established in UTSW guidelines, protocols, and regulatory requirements. Serves as part of the Imaging Services team and acts as a resource and trainer while seeking and providing feedback for improved processes and procedures.

Required
  • Education

  • Graduate from AMA approved school.
  • Experience

  • Must have Cardiac MRI experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire and
    (ARRT-MR) Magnetic Resonance Imaging Upon Hire or
    (ARMRIT) RegMagneticResonancImagingTech Upon Hire

  • 4 years of MRI experience
    Experience with Breast and Fetal MRI
JOB DUTIES
  • Reviews physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, sedation, and applicability to the MRI protocol. Ensures all patients have been screened for MRI appropriateness and review any contraindications for exams including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects, which would prohibit or modify the MRI exam. Discusses findings with on-site technologist, and the physicist and radiologist as applicable. If modification of a MRI protocol is necessary, consults with radiologist to determine appropriate sequences, parameters, etc. Documents changes as appropriate in electronic health record.
  • Reviews patient interview data, confirms correct patient is on the table (two patient identifiers) as correct exam is being performed with on-site technologist or patient, reviews medical history pertaining to procedureโ€ฟs clinical criteria. Ensures the procedure and instructions have been explained to the patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images. Ensures that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Utilizes technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age specific criteria while consulting with department personnel and leadership to resolve any clinical and/or technical problems. Completes exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner. Observes the administration of intravenous injections of contrast material as needed and assist with detecting any adverse reactions. Performs MRI ensuring that patient meets safety requirements to MRI contraindications. Instructs/communicates with patient regarding the tests being performed and evaluates the patient's ability to tolerate with the assistance of the on-site tech as needed.
  • Acts as a preceptor/trainer for new hires and trainees. Evaluates training effectiveness and provides input on processes and procedures for improvement.
  • Performs post processing on MRI systems and remote workstations. May include, but not limited to MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function including ejection fractions and wall thickness, spectroscopy analysis, and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
  • Responds to inquiries/calls/emails/chats in a timely and professional manner. Communicates shift hand off regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff. Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads. Actively participates in providing orientation and training for new hires and students ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards. Functions in the department as a part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborates in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines. Adheres to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible with regards to equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc. Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
  • Research as applicable: Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; b) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
