Job Summary and Responsibilities

This is a remote position

The IT Investment Portfolio Manager at CommonSpirit Health is a strategic and critical role that holds a pivotal position in overseeing, guiding, and optimizing multiple programs within a defined IT portfolio, ensuring their collective alignment with CommonSpirit's overarching mission, strategic goals, and financial objectives.

While not directly responsible for project delivery, this role provides comprehensive portfolio-level oversight, focusing on the strategic health and successful progression of all constituent programs and their projects. The Portfolio Manager is instrumental in guiding programs to ensure adherence to standard processes and methodologies, advising on actions related to risk and issue management, and effectively controlling constraints across the portfolio.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of work flows, implementation time lines, and in-depth project management philosophy and practical experience. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the project intake for their assigned portfolio, partnering with program leaders and ensuring new program and project proposals are rigorously vetted for strategic fit, business value, architectural integrity, and resource feasibility.
  • Collaborate with senior IT leadership, business stakeholders, and clinical teams to define, validate, and continually align the IT portfolio with CommonSpirit Health's strategic priorities, mission, and financial targets.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of IT governance structures and decision-making frameworks that guide portfolio evolution.
  • Provide comprehensive, portfolio-level oversight of multiple programs, focusing on their collective strategic health, interdependencies, and successful progression.
  • Guide program managers and teams on adherence to CommonSpirit's standard project management processes, methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall), and enterprise-wide standards.
  • Advise and support programs in proactive risk identification, assessment, and the development of effective mitigation strategies at both the program and portfolio levels.
  • Review and guide efforts to control program constraints including scope, schedule, budget, and quality, ensuring they remain aligned with strategic intent.
Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in IT portfolio management, program management, or senior project management roles within a complex organization.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.
  • Proven track record of managing large, complex IT portfolios with significant financial impact.

  • Significant experience using and optimizing Project Management tools i.e. ServiceNow, Planview, MS Project, or other equivalent.

  • Previous Portfolio Management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, financial management, and resource allocation.
  • Experience in delivering projects and managing programs.
  • Experience in implementing, monitoring and optimizing project management methodology.
  • Experience with various project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), is preferred.
