What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Gutter Sub Contractor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Gutter Sub Contractor, you need experience in gutter installation and repair, basic carpentry skills, and often a contractor's license or relevant certifications. Familiarity with tools like ladders, power drills, measuring devices, and project management or scheduling software is typically required. Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help ensure client satisfaction and efficient project completion. These skills and qualities are vital for delivering high-quality work, maintaining safety standards, and building a reliable reputation in a competitive industry.

What are the common challenges faced by a Remote Gutter Sub Contractor, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote Gutter Sub Contractors often encounter challenges such as coordinating schedules with clients and main contractors, managing supply deliveries, and ensuring communication is clear despite not being physically present at a central company location. To manage these effectively, it's important to use project management tools, maintain regular virtual check-ins, and establish clear protocols for reporting progress and issues. Building strong relationships with suppliers and maintaining flexibility can also help address logistical hurdles and ensure timely project completion.

What are remote gutter sub contractors?

Remote gutter sub contractors are independent professionals or companies hired by a main contractor to install, repair, or maintain gutter systems on residential or commercial buildings, often working from a distance or servicing multiple locations. They typically manage their own schedules, tools, and transportation, and may coordinate with clients or general contractors via phone or online platforms. These subcontractors are responsible for ensuring gutters are properly installed or maintained to prevent water damage. The 'remote' aspect means they are not direct employees and often travel to job sites as needed rather than working from a central office. This role requires expertise in gutter systems, safety practices, and sometimes the ability to quote or invoice jobs independently.

Job description

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUPยฎ is looking for a Senior Estimator to join our Public Sector Southwest team. This position can be remote. The ESG Southwest region has offices in Rockwall, TX, Albuquerque, NM and Littleton, CO and proximity to those offices is preferred. This position should expect to travel approximately 25% including overnight stays.

The Senior Estimator is a leader who is experienced in all aspects of general construction, design-assist construction, and full design-build construction. The Senior Estimator is responsible for all aspects of pre-construction activities, including developing internal and external cost estimates, coordinating with the Internal Project team, design partners, Vendors and Subcontractors. This position is not your traditional estimator job where you sit behind a desk and review drawings and sub proposals. This position is engaged in the design build process and develops ROM pricing either independently or with subcontractor and vendor engagement throughout the development process.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Preparing and communicating preliminary and final budget estimates, design cost estimates, design-development cost estimates, and guaranteed maximum price (GMP) proposals, inclusive of value engineering
  • Defining the scope of work (SOW) by reviewing drawings and written SOW by internal and external engineers.
  • Managing the participation from subs to ensure coverage as well as qualifying the sub proposals for accuracy against the RFP SOW.
  • Creating and sending out RFPโ€™s through Procore to subs for bidding.
  • Managing relationships with designers, sub-contractors, vendors, and suppliers to organize pre-construction efforts for each project
  • Attending on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences and site visits as required
  • Negotiating and reviewing bids from sub-contractors, reviewing scopes of work, and analyzing costs as bids are received
  • Developing and reviewing subcontractor scopes of work and accepting, reviewing, and analyzing subcontractor quotes for best value
  • Overseeing the pre-construction phase and producing budget estimates from the pre-concept design stage to the construction document stage
  • Developing and overseeing project schedules and workload priorities with pre-construction staff and organizing estimating schedules
  • Supporting ESG Operations Group with preparing and pricing change orders on awarded work on an as-needed basis

Your background includes:

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering and construction-related experience producing effective construction estimates or seven (7) years of related experience developing and managing construction estimates
  • Extensive knowledge of MEP systems and estimates
  • Knowledge of CSI divisions
  • Familiarity with RS Means Pricing and Estimating. Due to co-ops that we use occasionally, an RS Means estimate is required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage estimates from development to project closure
  • Demonstrated ability to manage your time and work in a fast paced environment
  • Superb attention to detail and communications skills
  • Strong capabilities to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal structure while exercising great judgment
  • Maintain an advanced ability to read, understand and organize construction plans and specifications

What we bring to you:

  • Professional growth and development programs including tuition reimbursement
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision insurance plans and wellness plans for employee and your family
  • Life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, and supplemental benefits
  • 401(k) Savings Plan
  • Nine Paid Holidays
  • Paid Vacation and Personal/Sick Leave
  • Paid Parental Leave for the birth, adoption, or placement of a child/children
  • Highly competitive salaries and incentive structure
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $150,000, commensurate with experience
