Join the Discovery family, where quality and service are at the heart of everything we do!
This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations or remote, with frequent travel across the global portfolio (50%+).
Discovery Land Company is seeking a full-time, year-round Vice President, Wellness to join the Wellness Department.
Job Summary:
As Vice President of Wellness, you will lead the vision, culture, and standards for spa, fitness, recovery, and nonmedical well-being programming across every Discovery Land Company property. Discovery's communities are homes and lifelong memberships, not transactional guest stays, and this role exists to ensure wellness feels like a natural, deeply personal part of that experience. You will partner with property leadership, development, and design teams to bring wellness to life, while building the organizational and operational foundation needed to scale wellness safely and consistently across a global portfolio.
Scope Boundary: All medical, integrative medicine, functional medicine, medical aesthetics, and longevity medicine therapies, services, providers, protocols, partnerships, and related member communications are outside the scope of this role and are under the direction and authority of Discovery's Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Vision, Standards & Programming
    • Define and evolve Discovery's wellness philosophy and member experience standards across all properties, ensuring consistency of feel while honoring each community's local character.
    • Design signature wellness programming - including spa, fitness, recovery, movement, mindfulness, and restorative experiences - that feels personal, unhurried, and true to a residential, member-first environment.
    • Formulate and maintain a comprehensive Wellness Brand Manual as the definitive guide for consistency and excellence across properties.
    • Monitor spa, fitness, recovery, and nonmedical well-being trends, bringing forward ideas that keep Discovery communities ahead of the curve for members.
  • Development, Design & Capital Planning
    • Partner with development, architecture, and design teams from concept through opening on all wellness facilities, including spas, fitness centers, recovery spaces, and outdoor wellness amenities.
    • Own the wellness pre-opening timeline for new properties, including design sign-off milestones, equipment procurement, licensing lead time, and staffing ramp schedule, in partnership with the pre-opening framework used across Discovery's regional openings.
    • Set space planning, equipment, and design standards that support member privacy, comfort, and the discreet, uncrowded feel core to the Discovery experience.
    • Recommend capital investment priorities based on member experience impact and long-term community value, in partnership with ownership and finance; hold approval authority over wellness capex within an established threshold.
    • Own the wellness department's annual operating budget in partnership with property finance leads; approve wellness-related opex above property-level authority limits.
  • Compliance, Risk & Safety
    • Ensure all spa, fitness, recovery, and nonmedical wellness services comply with applicable licensing, certification, sanitation, accessibility, and health and safety requirements across every jurisdiction in the portfolio (e.g., esthetician and massage therapy licensure and personal training certification).
    • Ensure adequate liability insurance coverage and operational risk protocols are in place for all nonmedical wellness modalities offered, in partnership with Risk Management.
    • Ensure wellness facilities meet accessibility (ADA and equivalent international standards) and sanitation requirements.
  • People & Talent
    • Set and monitor wellness service and staffing standards across all properties, including hiring, training, and development of property-level Wellness Directors and teams.
    • Hold hiring approval authority for property-level Wellness Director roles; provide hands-on support to properties and lead recruitment for key wellness leadership roles.
    • Build and maintain a cross-property wellness talent pipeline and succession bench, enabling Wellness Directors and senior staff to move between properties as the portfolio grows.
    • Partner with Human Resources on nonmedical colleague well-being programs that reflect Discovery's culture and values for its own team members.
    • Conduct regular property site visits to assess staff performance, facility condition, and member sentiment, and to coach property leadership.
  • Technology & Vendor Partnerships
    • Define the operational wellness technology stack across the portfolio, including booking, scheduling, point-of-sale, member-experience, and utilization-reporting systems, in partnership with IT.
    • Identify and manage exclusive or preferred brand partnerships, including spa product lines, fitness equipment, recovery equipment, and other nonmedical wellness offerings that enhance member experience and Discovery's market positioning.
    • Oversee vendor relationships supporting wellness operations to ensure a seamless, high-touch member journey.
  • Member & Community Engagement
    • Represent wellness in member communications and community-facing moments, ensuring tone and delivery reflect Discovery's private, understated brand voice.
    • Build strong relationships with members to understand evolving wellness expectations and family needs.
    • Champion Discovery's Mission, Vision, and Values, serving as an organizational model and thought leader for wellness across the company.
  • Excellence in Member Experience and Satisfaction
    • Oversee service delivery and member interaction processes across all wellness touchpoints.
    • Monitor member feedback and satisfaction trends, adjusting programming and standards accordingly.
    • Track wellness facility utilization rates and program enrollment as leading indicators of member engagement.
  • Fiscal Budget and Financial Adherence
    • Review monthly Profit & Loss statements at each club location.
    • Conduct an annual review of budgets and capital expenditures.
    • Monitor revenue-per-treatment and cost-per-member benchmarks across properties, understood as indicators of program health rather than department profit targets.
  • Employee Development
    • Establish succession and career-path plans for Wellness Director-level replacements at each property, including a cross-property talent bench.
    • Track internal promotion and retention rates for wellness staff portfolio-wide.
  • Capital Planning and Facility Standards
    • Conduct an annual review of wellness capital expenditure priorities across the portfolio.
    • Ensure wellness facilities remain aligned with Discovery design and brand standards.
  • Compliance & Risk
    • Maintain a zero-incident record on applicable spa, fitness, facility, sanitation, accessibility, and operational compliance requirements across all properties.
  • Innovation and Best Practices
    • Leverage leading nonmedical wellness, fitness, recovery, and member-experience technologies and best practices.
    • Foster innovative thinking and push boundaries to enhance the member and employee experience.
    • Maintain and update the Wellness Brand Manual annually.
  • Business Travel
    • Committed to regular travel to properties and events.
    • Schedule annual on-site visits to each property.
    • Submit a thorough post-visit report following each property visit, detailing current status and strategic recommendations.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant wellness or spa management certification preferred.
  • 10-15 years of experience in wellness, spa, and fitness management, including 5+ years in senior leadership, ideally within luxury residential, private club, or high-end hospitality settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead wellness development projects from concept to opening across multiple locations.
  • Experience building and leading teams in a service culture defined by discretion, familiarity, and long-term relationships rather than transactional guest turnover.
  • Working knowledge of spa, fitness, facility, sanitation, accessibility, and operational requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Comfort operating in a capital-intensive, real-estate-driven business, where wellness's value is measured in member retention, referral, and property desirability rather than department revenue.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a discreet, warm style suited to a private club environment.
  • Ability to inspire and lead a diverse team across a geographically dispersed portfolio.
  • Familiarity with international markets and a broad range of spa, fitness, recovery, and nonmedical wellness trends.

Additional Requirements
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
