  • Advise executive leadership on strategic considerations surrounding cross-border transactions and investment reviews governed by the Department of the Treasury (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States - CIFIUS).
  • Executive & Legislative Policy Alignment: Map out both legislative (Capitol Hill) and administrative/executive (White House, Cabinet departments) policy pathways to safeguard and advance Midea's strategic business objectives in North America.
  • Stakeholder & Coalition Engagement: Represent Midea in key trade associations (e.g., AHAM, AHRI, CTA), industry coalitions, and public policy forums. Engage with executive and legislative stakeholders on trade, sustainability, energy efficiency standards, and product safety.
  • Risk Analysis & Strategic Counsel: Provide high-level risk assessment and actionable legal/policy counsel to executive leadership on emerging U.S. legislative trends, trade policies, and geopolitical regulatory dynamics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a top-tier accredited U.S. law school (e.g., Georgetown Law or equivalent) is strongly preferred. Active state bar membership.
  • Experience:
  • 10+ years of combined experience in federal legislative affairs, government relations, regulatory law, or public policy in Washington, D.C.
  • Capitol Hill Experience: Proven track record working directly on Capitol Hill as Counsel, Senior Counsel, or Legislative Assistant to a U.S. Senator, Representative, or Congressional Committee (e.g., Senate Commerce, House Energy & Commerce).
  • Agency Experience: Substantive experience or direct familiarity with federal administrative agencies:
  • High familiarity with CPSC rules, standards, enforcement, and compliance procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of Department of Commerce (BIS) trade/export control regulations and/or Department of the Treasury (CIFIUS) investment oversight processes.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
  • Deep understanding of both legislative process (how laws are drafted, negotiated, and passed) and executive branch rulemaking/implementation.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to build bipartisan consensus.
  • Strong multicultural collaboration capacity is desirable; Mandarin proficiency is a plus.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $140,000- $250,000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
