Job description

Summary
This position is located in the Golf Branch, Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department within Navy Region Southwest (NRSW). The incumbent assists with the business and administrative management of the golf shop operation. The duties are normally carried out with minimal supervision and during the absence of the golf course manager and assistant manager, typically afternoons, evenings or on weekends/holidays.

Help
70% Retail Golf Shop:
  1. The incumbent assists the Golf Operations Manager and Assistant Golf Operations Manager in the efficient operation and administration of the Golf Pro Shop and related areas including retail space, club and cart rentals, and the driving range program. A significant amount of time is spent controlling the sales counter and cash register operation.
  2. Assists the Managers to operate, maintain, purchase, display and control retail golf merchandise operation and promote sales and excellent customer service. Counsels patrons in the purchase and use of merchandise and insures that quality products are ordered and stocked appropriately. Prepares purchase order requests for merchandise and supplies and forwards to supervisor for approval. Insures staff keeps golf shop neat and clean and maintains appeal by constantly changing/re-arranging fixtures and displays in an effort to increase sales and improve customer satisfaction.
  3. The incumbent helps maintain records of all merchandise ordered and received, paying particular attention to special orders and requests from patrons for specific items to sell. Conducts surveys and evaluates past, present and future sales in an effort to formulate a buying plan for the next season.

20% Administration:
  1. Provides input for the overall development of the golf recreation program. Promotes the program by helping to coordinate golf leagues, outings, clinics, intramural golf, junior golf and tournament programs. Maintains relationships in and out of the department as necessary to accomplish departmental functions. Helps develop and maintain a public relations program designed to promote and develop local interest in the golf course and the game of golf.
  2. Assists in the selection, scheduling, training, instruction (including safety) and guidance of golf shop personnel. Constant review of more efficient methods and procedures is required. Helps maintain a working climate in which employees are effectively motivated to work to their fullest potential.
  3. Maintains records which are required for the efficient operation of the golf shop operation, such as usage reports, purchase orders, employee data, yearly planner log, property book records and merchandise inventories.
  4. Maintains all change funds in accordance with applicable directives, and on a daily basis, checks and balances all cash and receipts, making deposits when required.
  5. Acts as the Facility Manager in the absence of supervisor, ensuring all aspects of the golf shop operation adhere to existing branch policies, procedures and controls.

10% Course Management:
  1. Enforces the rules and regulations governing the use of the golf course and facilities by utilizing sound judgment. Assures patron satisfaction by resolving complaints and other customer issues in a timely manner.
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned.

A minimum of one year experience which provides knowledge of golf club operations or equivalent leadership experience is required.

The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.
Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05. Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.
Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
