Job description

Senior Golang Software Engineer

Location: Remote – U.S.

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep production experience in Go (Golang) to help design, build, and operate scalable backend systems in a fast-moving, early-stage startup environment.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning meaningful technical problems, working on distributed systems, and collaborating closely with a highly capable team. You'll have significant influence over backend architecture, APIs, data models, infrastructure, and engineering practices.

Strong technical ability is essential, but communication and collaboration are equally important. We're looking for someone who is thoughtful, low ego, and able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and operate production backend systems using Go
  • Develop scalable, reliable APIs and distributed services
  • Design and evolve database schemas and data models
  • Build and maintain systems using SQL/PostgreSQL
  • Contribute to infrastructure, deployment, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Work with Kubernetes and cloud-native environments
  • Implement and improve observability through metrics, alerting, logging, and request tracing
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability and performance
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and other stakeholders
  • Help shape technical architecture and engineering best practices as the company grows

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional experience writing production Go (Golang) for backend systems
  • Proven experience building and operating distributed backend systems in production
  • Strong understanding of backend architecture and API design
  • Experience designing relational database schemas and working with SQL
  • Experience building production web applications, services, and/or APIs
  • Ability to independently own technical problems from design through production
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative, low-ego approach to engineering and problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following is highly valued:

  • PostgreSQL
  • Kubernetes
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • API-driven development
  • Observability tooling, including metrics, alerting, logging, and distributed/request tracing
  • Python and/or Python-based data pipelines
  • Early-stage startup environments, particularly Seed through Series B
  • High-stakes or highly regulated domains such as fintech, security, identity, fraud, or risk

Ideal Candidate

You'll likely thrive in this role if you're a strong backend engineer who enjoys the ownership and pace of an early-stage company. You care deeply about engineering quality without bringing unnecessary ego to technical discussions.

You're someone who communicates clearly, welcomes feedback, works well with different personalities, and can have productive conversations with both engineers and non-engineers. You value collaboration and are comfortable operating in an environment where priorities can evolve quickly.
